Even my wife and daughters who are huge Taylor Kitsch (sp?) fans aren't going to see it.

Wonder how the heck "Battleship" is going to do! That looks almost as big of a train wreck as Carter.

BD Horror News - FX Guru To Make Directorial Debut On 'Archetype'

John Davis, riding high off of the surprise success of the super-powered found-footage movie Chronicle, is going back to the world of robots as the producer. THR reports that David, who has a first-look deal at Fox, has picked up the rights to Archetype, a sci-fi short (watch it after the break) directed by Aaron Sims, with plans on developing it into a feature. We first reported on this short film here on Bloody last June.

Sims runs the Aaron Sims Co., a firm that specializes in previs and visual effects with credits including War Horse, Rise of the Planet of the Apes and The Thing remake. He acted as a concept artist and did creature design work for Stan Winston Studio, working on A.I. and War of the Worlds, among other movies. He began his career with Rick Baker, working in special effects and make-up on movies such as Gremlins 2, Batman Forever and Mighty Joe Young.

"'The Archetype' short tells the story of an eight-foot tall combat robot named RL7 that malfunctions during a mission, developing unexplained memories, causing its creators to investigate its odd behavior. The short ends with concept paintings detailing the robot on the run while being chased by various metallic constructs."

Sims is attached to make his feature directorial debut on the feature. Newcomers Guy Busick and Ryan Murphy are attached to pen the script. John Norris, an exec producer on The Help, will produce with Davis.

Director Andrew Stanton JOHN CARTER Interview

Ninety-five years ago, Edgar Rice Burroughs wrote A Princess of Mars, and since its publication, the series has influenced generations of readers. As you might imagine, numerous filmmakers were inspired by Burroughs imagination, and many tried and were unsuccessful in bringing the story to the big screen. Enter Andrew Stanton. As the writer-director of Pixar’s Finding Nemo and WALL-E, Stanton has proven himself to be a great director. He’s also a big fan of A Princess of Mars, and when he made the move to live-action, he got Disney to bring the film to theaters (now under the title of “John Carter“, named after the book’s protagonist). After you see it this weekend, you’ll be glad you did. The film is fantastic and well worth the price of an IMAX 3D ticket. Trust me: once you’re transported to the world of Barsoom, you’re going to love it.
A lot of good word of mouth from the critics so far. Me and Kq will be seeing this on Saturday...in Imax. I'll let you know.

How ‘John Carter’ Succeeds Where the ‘Star Wars’ Prequels Failed | Film School Rejects

Director Andrew Stanton, being somewhat of the miracle worker that he is, has managed to capture the strengths of the original Star Wars trilogy while avoiding much of what was wrong with the prequels with his John Carter. This Disney epic provides for all of a boy’s basic needs, wants, and desires that Lucas’s prequels didn’t deliver upon. Stanton knows their sweet spot – and yes, I know how creepy that reads – by hitting all the major checkpoints required for them: beefy hero, beautiful love interest, sweet weaponry, non-pandering comic relief, big aliens, and exciting flying things that could not look more like the speeder bikes from Return of the Jedi. How do these amazing devices work, you ask? They just do.
