Tron 2 was not fun. I struggled through it. Jon Carter is fun and sure, a lot of the plot elements have been done before but simply because they were admittedly stolen from the original Burroughs novels. Now, you can use your logic to argue this vs Avatar, because that's more apples to apples. But Tron 2 was a movie where the plot was put there solely to justify the state of the art effects. Jon Carter has what that movie doesn't...a heart. Tron 2 is a cold electric lightshow. Like you were all saying when I railed against Tron 2...shouldn't you see it before you weigh in?

Sure, sure. I was just curious as to what was different about the since what I was reading was "it's a **** story, but good fun". I don't disagree with anything you've said and, like I said, I expect I'll enjoy it when I get around to seeing it.

I certainly can't argue that Tron: Legacy had any "heart" to it, that's for sure.

Well said, Tim. This isn't some over-hyped Cameron job with a plot so thick with environmental activism (though there is a bit, and I'm willing to look beyond that for what the rest of the movie is) that it makes you want to vomit. This is a modern telling of a classic adventure story. Had it amped up the plotline too much, it would have been overdone and would really have taken from the "forget-the-world-for-a-time-and-have-an-adventure-at-the-movies" quality it really does have "in spades."

And had this movie been directed by John Cameron, I'm sure every one of these buffoon critics would have practically fallen over each other to fellate it.

Well said, Tim. This is the best breakdown of this movie yet. It makes me a little sad too because it almost feels as if with all the advances in tech that there is really no place for what amounts to old fashioned wide eyed wonder. I also have to think that if Star Wars(the original) came out now...it would be a dismal failure.
