    ENDER’S GAME Production Blog Launched

after years of starts and stops, a feature film adaptation of Ender’s Game is finally on the way. X-Men Origins: Wolverine director Gavin Hood is at the helm, and Hugo‘s Asa Butterfield plays the titular boy who’s recruited to develop military strategies in an attempt to prepare for an intergalactic battle. A production blog for the film has just been launched, with an inaugural entry highlighting the big shoes Butterfield has to fill for the long-awaited adaptation. The blog will be run by producer Roberto Orci (Star Trek) and will feature guest updates from the cast and crew.

I’m only a few chapters into Orson Scott Card’s Ender’s Game, but I’m enjoying the sci-fi story so far. Hood’s involvement gave me pause, but he’s assembled a top-notch cast that includes Harrison Ford, Viola Davis, Hailee Steinfeld, Abigail Breslin and Ben Kingsley. Hit the jump to read a synopsis of the book, and head over to the official production blog to check out the first entry. Ender’s Game opens on March 15th, 2013.

Here’s the synopsis for Ender’s Game:

In order to develop a secure defense against a hostile alien race’s next attack, government agencies breed child geniuses and train them as soldiers. A brilliant young boy, Andrew “Ender” Wiggin lives with his kind but distant parents, his sadistic brother Peter, and the person he loves more than anyone else, his sister Valentine. Peter and Valentine were candidates for the soldier-training program but didn’t make the cut–young Ender is the Wiggin drafted to the orbiting Battle School for rigorous military training.

Ender’s skills make him a leader in school and respected in the Battle Room, where children play at mock battles in zero gravity. Yet growing up in an artificial community of young soldiers, Ender suffers greatly from isolation, rivalry from his peers, pressure from the adult teachers, and an unsettling fear of the alien invaders. His psychological battles include loneliness, fear that he is becoming like the cruel brother he remembers, and fanning the flames of devotion to his beloved sister.

Is Ender the general Earth needs? But Ender is not the only result of the genetic experiments. The war with the Buggers has been raging for a hundred years, and the quest for the perfect general has been underway for almost as long. Ender’s two older siblings are every bit as unusual as he is, but in very different ways. Between the three of them lie the abilities to remake a world. If the world survives, that is.

Ender's Game is one of my all time favorite books. A lot of it is so much based on what's going through Ender's head, strategies amongst characters, etc. Can't figure out how that will translate to the big screen.

I hope not just a Starship Troopers re-boot. don't get me wrong, I really liked starship troopers, but in different ways. I hope the movie does it justice.

Battlestar Galactica: Blood And Chrome Not Moving Ahead As A TV Show | Bleeding Cool Comic Book, Movies and TV News and Rumors

Originally conceived as a series for the web, Blood and Chrome was given a TV pilot order and it’s the trailer for that we’ve been enjoying all day.

But despite the very positive reaction to this promo, Syfy have decided not to go ahead with a full series and if they make more episodes, it will be to their original plan for web videos.

Deadline are saying that the pilot is likely to air on TV as a movie. They also quote a new statement from Syfy’s president of original programming, Mark Stern:

We are actively pursuing it as was originally intended: a groundbreaking digital series that will launch to audiences beyond the scope of a television screen. The 90-minute pilot movie will air on Syfy in its entirety at a future date.
    Too bad.
