I'm a fan of Terry Brooks, for sure...but not for the original Shannara series. Now, if you're talking the Word/Void trilogy and its tie-in to the world of Shannara through the Genesis of Shannara trilogy, then I think you've got a bitching' TV series.
It'd take about nine seasons to tell, though.

First negative review I've come across. Still early days, though.On a technical level, we suppose the film is an accomplishment, with costumes and period details mostly coming through, but in most other ways, this $100 million effort offers fortune cookie social commentary put in a blender with a handful of thinly interlocking stories, in a failed attempt to say something meaningful about the human condition, and how modes of good and evil perpetuate themselves across centuries. Too long by at least a half hour, and both dull and repetitive as it goes on, "Cloud Atlas" reaches for envelope-pushing storytelling but never delivers on its promise. [C-]

Was told by a family friend this weekend that this is one of the worst movies he's ever seen.Jamie Bradshaw and Aleksandr Dulerayn wrote, directed, and produced the movie, and you have to think that they might have a better understanding of what’s going on than we, the audience, does. But it’s hard to muster up the energy to care. They seem to want to employ the same tactics of marketing to their movie – the screen is always lousy with extraneous text and title cards, and the frame of the movie sometimes contracts to a square 4:3 dimension, for no apparent reason. You’ve got to give them credit for ambition, but execution is just as important (by the end of the movie though, you find out who the narrator is – spoiler alert – it’s the starry cow god from the prologue! Of course!) And while, if this was a South Korean movie that someone slipped into our hands and said, “You’ve got to see it, the logos come to life!” we would probably be more forgiving, this isn’t some South Korean movie - it’s a fairly major international coproduction that also happens to be a sexless, humorless, suspense-free bore. Whatever “Branded” is selling, we aren’t buying. [D-]
This is gonna run the gamut. Even the best reviews have said that this is a movie that needs to be seen repeatedly so that you can decipher it. Going to hurt it's short term...but this is surely going to be one of those movies that just excels once home viewing is an option. Just got the book...tell you, between this...and Life of Pi, there are 2 fairly high budget/high profile movies that are going to sadly show how unsophisticated audiences these days are. Hell, it took Blade Runner 20 years for folks to 'get it'. God bless the Wachowskis...still say Speed Racer was insane eye candy wrapped in ridiculous visuals...they are making me want to go back and rewatch the Matrix trilogy. I know the first one is cherry...but maybe we were wrong about the 2nd and 3rd ones...
They are making a Life of Pi movie, aren't they. Who ended up being a director? It went through so many directors I stopped paying attention, lol!

Ang Lee. The visual reels they have released so far(minus any narrative...because how can you squeeze that into a 2 minute clip) are ****ing astounding. Gonna be 3d and (I think Imax)and may actually do good business based solely on peoples desires to see what should be a dreamflick for the tech. I am still suffering a hangover from reading the Game of Thrones books...I can't get through anything right now. I have Reader's Block.They are making a Life of Pi movie, aren't they. Yeah, Alfonso Cuaron, and then Jean-Pierre Jeunet (I think) were attached. Either of these guys would have done a good job.
Ang Lee is a good choice though. Life of Pi is such a well written story with great characters, but it's ripe for some great visuals should be a good one.
Honestly, Cloud Atlas, at worse will be an interesting failure, but I do have hope that it will be better.
Speaking of interesting failures in some peoples eyes, I rented John Carter, haha. Should had watched that in the theater, but alas, still, will watch it later or tomorrow & write about it. :O
