SIDE EFFECTS Review. SIDE EFFECTS Stars Rooney Mara, Jude Law, and Channing Tatum | Collider
But about halfway through, the film flips into a thriller and everything falls apart. Not only does Side Effects become completely reliant on increasingly moronic twists, but everything thoughtful in the first-half is undermined by revelations in the second-half. Jonathan starts out as a relatable and flawed psychiatrist, but the story requires him to become an excellent detective and expert manipulator. He’s no longer the everyshrink, but someone who should have become a P.I. instead of M.D. I won’t reveal any details about the increasingly contrived plot other than to say that it gives the film a bitter aftertaste that’s unworthy of Soderbergh’s usually sharp filmmaking.
The script feels like writer Scott Z. Burns ran out of story at the film’s turning point, and rather than dig deeper into the thoughtful issues that were raised in the first-half, he threw them out the window to stumble through a paranoid thriller that comes out of nowhere. The movie can drop a reference to William Styron‘s seminal memoir on depression, Darkness Visible, or show us how Jonathan is “descending into madness”, but these moves are unworthy of the intelligent observations from earlier in the story. Side Effects never quite grasps the nature of depression, but it does a good job of creating the frustration of withdrawal.
Colin Firth Confirmed To Star With Nicole Kidman In Thriller 'Before I Go To Sleep' | The Playlist
I've heard the book is good.ased on S.J. Watson’s bestselling book, and set to be directed by Rowan Joffe ("Brighton Rock"), the thriller follows a woman (Kidman) who wakes up each morning with no memory, with her husband (Firth) telling her that she's suffered a trauma and needs to stay at home. One day, she sneaks off to a doctor (to be played by Mark Strong) who gives her a recorder and tells her to play back her thoughts to help piece things together. What she discovers is that her husband...may not be her husband at all.
Ewan McGregor, Ralph Fiennes, and Mads Mikkelson May Make OUR KIND OF TRAITOR Together! - Ain't It Cool News: The best in movie, TV, DVD, and comic book news.
After the success of TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY, it's no surprise that StudioCanal want to continue with the John Le Carre trend and adapt more of his work. It's also quite interesting that they keep diving into Fantastic Fest alumni to make them - TTSS was directed by LET THE RIGHT ONE IN's Tomas Alfredson, and the new Le Carre, OUR KIND OF TRAITOR, will be directed by SNOWTOWN's Justin Kurzel. The pedigree is terrific - Kurzel will be directing from a script by Hossein Amini (DRIVE). And they seem to be building quite the cast.
Ewan McGregor has already signed on, and Ralph Fiennes and Mads Mikkelson are in talks, according to Screen Daily. In OUR KIND OF TRAITOR, McGregor plays a professor who gets contacted by a Russian money launderer trying to defect to the West. Soon McGregor and his girlfriend are caught between the manipulations of the English government, the Russian government, and the mob. Mikkelson would be playing the launderer while Fiennes would be playing a British agent trying to orchestrate the defection.

Legal criminals terrorize Ethan Hawkes home in new The Purge trailer
Surely among the more outlandish of Hollywood's premises in recent years, the upcoming "The Purge" looks at what happens when a society gives criminals a break -- for 12 hours. The brand new trailer reveals that law-abiding citizens are in one long, scary night.
In the near future, unemployment and crime are at an all-time low. Sound good? The reason for that prosperity is what's known as "The Purge" -- an annual 12-hour period in which all criminal activity (robbery, rape, murder, you name it) is completely legal and will go unpunished by the law. It's completely up to the citizens to regulate themselves and administer any punishment they see fit after a transgression occurs. Of course, one family's moral boundaries are put to the test when their heavily fortified home is inevitably invaded.

Decent choice. He will bring a certain amount of kink to this if he gets the gig. He clearly wants it.
