BLOOD TIES Trailer and Poster. BLOOD TIES Stars Clive Owen, Marion Cotillard, Mila Kunis, and Zoe Saldana | Collider

New York, 1974. Fifty year-old Chris has just been released on good behavior after several years in prison following a gangland murder. Waiting for him reluctantly outside the prison gates is his younger brother, Frank, a cop with a bright future. Chris and Frank have always been different, and their father, Leon, who’d raised them alone, seems strangely to prefer Chris – this, despite all his troubles.

Yet blood ties are the ones that bind. Frank, hoping that his brother has changed, is willing to give him a chance; he shares his home, finds him a job, and helps him reconnect with his children and his ex-wife, Monica. But Chris’ past quickly catches up to him, and his descent back into a life of crime becomes inevitable. For Frank, this descent proves to be the last in a long line of betrayals, and after his brother’s latest transgressions, he banishes him from his life

But it’s already too late; the brothers’ destiny will keep bounded, forever…

Ok...so some movies you hear about...and wonder. Well wonder no more. I saw this at WAAAAAAAAY too young an age. It will show you just how much more liberal movie ratings used to be

    Cruising |*Shop.WarnerArchive.com

Available only as dvd, and it is one of those made-to-order ones...pretty sure this isn't the one with the extra footage...but trust me, they show...PLENTY. I have to get this simply to see if it has aged well and if it's as permissive or homophobic as alternate opinions have expressed. You will need a shower afters.

I have always wanted to watch Cruising. I don't think any major studio would make that sort of movie today.

Yeah...no they wouldn't. It's why Friedkin went off the grid.

PRISONERS Trailer. PRISONERS Stars Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Paul Dano, and Viola Davis | Collider

The first trailer has been released for Denis Villeneuve’s (Incendies) dramatic thriller Prisoners. The film stars Hugh Jackman as a working-class Boston father who sets out to track down the man he believes is responsible for kidnapping his daughter and her friend. Along the way, he runs up against the big city detective (Jake Gyllenhaal) assigned to the case. The film certainly appears to do justice to a dramatic telling of a parent’s worst nightmare, but it goes further than that, asking to what lengths a person would go to in order to return their children home safely. Unfortunately, as is the case with many recent trailers, too much of the story is given away too soon.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer. The film also stars Paul Dano, Maria Bello, Terrence Howard, and Viola Davis. Prisoners opens September 20th.

Review: 'The East' Is A Divisive, But Stylish Thriller & Worthy Companion Piece To 'Sound Of My Voice' | The Playlist

Despite my issues with the film, it's stylish and sincere and comes from a personal place. Apparently Marling and Batmanglij spent a summer traveling around in a similar fashion to see if they could live for a few months without spending money. Though it functions as a thriller, the film still raises issues worth considering (even if they are surface level concerns). Though the script (by Batmanglij and Marling) could've used another polish, as a filmmaker, Batmanglij is still at the head of the class of up-and-coming directors. It's great seeing him able to paint on a larger canvas here and provide Marling an opportunity to turn in another beguiling performance. "The East" is definitely a movie that's going to divide people but it'll be a conversation worth having. [B-]
