OPEN GRAVE Trailer and Poster | Collider

    Synopsis:

A man (Sharlto Copley, DISTRICT 9, ELYSIUM) wakes up in a pit of dead bodies with no memory of who he is or how he got there. Fleeing the scene, he breaks into a nearby house and is met at gunpoint by a group of terrified strangers, all suffering from memory loss. Suspicion gives way to violence as the group starts to piece together clues about their identities, but when they uncover a threat that’s more vicious — and hungry — than each other, they are forced to figure out what brought them all together — before it’s too late.

OUT OF THE FURNACE Images; OUT OF THE FURNACE Stars Christian Bale and Woody Harrelson | Collider

Four new images have been released for Scott Cooper’s drama Out of the Furnace. The film stars Christian Bale as an ex-con steel worker who seeks vengeance when his brother (Casey Affleck) disappears after getting involved with a local crime ring. The pic seems to be flying under the radar when it comes to awards prognostication. Perhaps that’s because of early buzz amongst Oscar bloggers (where’s Adam when you need him?!) or because the plot doesn’t reach for something as lofty as other contenders even thought it looks like a compelling character drama. Perhaps its awards fortunes will change when it premieres at AFI Fest later this month.

Hit the jump to check out the images. The film also stars Zoe Saldana, Woody Harrelson, Willem Dafoe, Sam Shepard, and Forest Whitaker. Out of the Furnace opens in theaters December 6th.

MOJAVE Movie Images. William Monahan’s MOJAVE Stars Garrett Hedlund and Oscar Isaac | Collider

We’ve reported on William Monahan‘s Mojave for a couple years, but he’s been working on it for much longer. In a recent interview, the Oscar-winning screenwriter (The Departed) said his second directorial feature was written “part time and on weekends for about 10 years now.” He finally got it finished, filmed it, and now the first three images have been released. The film centers on a near-suicidal artist (Garrett Hedlund) who escapes into the desert to take an existential crisis head-on, only to encounter a doppelganger-like antagonist in the form of a brilliant, homicidal drifter (Oscar Isaac). Monahan mulled over selling the script and came to the conclusion that rather than “let it go be distorted and made improperly” he would do the right thing and just make it myself and forego the money.”

Hit the jump for more. The film also stars Walton Goggins and Louise Bourgoin. Mojave is currently making the rounds at the American Film Market to pick up distribution.

Monahan tells Empire there are difficulties in boiling down the movie to a tagline. “The tagline for Mojave, if one were to be honest,” says Monahan, “would be ‘Mojave… Mojave is what it is what it is.’” Personally, I think that’s a brilliant tagline, and they should totally use it. For Monahan, he thinks the movie has a great hook if you look at the subtext:

What I’ve always said about this is it’s man goes to the desert to kill the devil within himself and ends up bringing it back with him, within Jack. He’s sedated the devil within himself and brings back the physical form of the devil…” If that’s not enough of a killer selling point for the film, we don’t know what is.

Subtext is a much harder sell, but hopefully Monahan won’t have too much trouble finding buyers for his intriguing flick.

OOOh sounds fun. Like the cast too.

First Look: Charlize Theron In Adaptation Of Gillian Flynn's 'Dark Places' | The Playlist

Between this and Fincher's upcoming adaptation of Gone Girl, Gillian Flynn is a pretty hot writer at the moment. Still haven't read any of her stuff.
