    Default All Things:THRILLER

Rosario Dawson and Vincent Cassel Joining Danny Boyle’s ‘Trance’ | /Film

Danny Boyle just bolstered the cast of his new thriller Trance, which will shoot later this year, then go dormant until late 2012 while the director works on the London Olympics, before finally being completed next fall for release sometime in 2013. James McAvoy is already set to play an accomplice in a botched art heist, and now he will likely be joined by Rosario Dawson and Vincent Cassel.

The last time we checked in on the film, Scarlett Johansson was said to be the prime candidate for the female lead, which has now gone to Rosario Dawson. This is a better outcome, as far as I’m concerned. And Vincent Cassel has been rumored for the movie, but so was Colin Firth — looks like the former won out in the race for the role. Deadline doesn’t mention the other candidates in its report, but at this point they don’t really matter.

Here’s the synopsis for Trance, which is based on a 2001 British TV film:

An assistant at an auction house masterminds [an art] heist and teams up with a gang of thieves, but suffers a blow to the head and wakes up with amnesia. He is the only one who knows where the painting’s location is and after his continued failure to remember, the gang begins to suspect duplicity on his part and hire a female hypnotist to get into his brain.

James McAvoy is set to play Simon, aka the assistant; Vincent Cassel will likely be Aiden, the leader of the gang of thieves, once meant for Michael Fassbender, and Rosario Dawson the hypnotist, who Deadline says “develops an unusual relationship with both men.”

The film is said to be working from a relatively modest budget with a script that has already been compared in tone to Mr. Boyle’s breakthrough film Shallow Grave. I’m not ready to race forward to 2013 just yet, but all the same this is the most interested I’ve been in a Danny Boyle movie in a while.

First Trespass Poster: Nicolas Cage, Nicole Kidman Battle Invaders, Release Strategy | Movieline

It’s been a little more than a month since Millennium Entertainment picked up the thriller Trespass, which stars Nicolas Cage and Nicole Kidman as a couple defending their home against a ruthless gang of home invaders. Last week, very quietly, the company appears to have distributed the first poster for Joel Schumacher’s film.

    Ouch, that poster is BRUTAL.

‘Harry Brown’ Helmer Daniel Barber To Direct ‘Strangers On A Train’-Esque Thriller ‘Substitution’ > The Playlist

The Hollywood Reporter bring news that Barber is in negotiations to make his Hollywood debut on Alcon Entertainment‘s thriller “Substitution.” The script, from Ian Shorr, who penned horror flick “Splinter” and the futuristic take on “The Count of Monte Cristo” that Warner Bros picked up recently, is described as a contemporary take on “Strangers on a Train,” about a subsitute teacher and a high-school student who enter a plot to swap murders.
    I really liked Harry Brown.

Bryan Cranston Writing & Planning To Direct Adaptation Of David Wiltse’s Thriller ‘Home Again’ > The Playlist

Speaking with Hollywood.com, Cranston reveals he has ambitions to get back in the director’s chair. Wait, get back? Yes, Cranston made his debut feature film way back in 1999 wtih “Last Chance” and since then has directed episodes of “Malcolm In the Middle” and “Breaking Bad.” But if everything works out, he’ll be making his sophomore feature sometime next year. He’s currently adapting the thriller “Home Again” by David Wiltse and with writing and directing duties there’s not word if he’ll star in it too, but it’s sounds like a great piece of material. We’ll let him explain.

“It’s basically a very strong father-son story, and a murder-mystery. An FBI agent who suddenly quits the department and takes his son and his wife and moves back to his hometown of Cascade, Nebraska, to rekindle family values and pay attention now,” he says. “He’s been working for the FBI for years, so he’s been home sporadically. And his son is now sixteen, very sensitive, and looks upon his father like sort of a stranger… And then there’s a murder that happens in the little town that they move to, which kills [the father’s] whole stance on, ‘Things are better in these small towns!’ And then things unravel, and basically, the father and son come together at the end and save each other emotionally and literally.”

Confirmed: Michael Fassbender Offered The Lead In ‘Prisoners’ > The Playlist

Reports swirled on Friday that Fassbender has now been offered the lead in “Prisoners,” a long-gestating crime thriller compared to “Mystic River,” “Taken,” “Silence of the Lambs” and “Seven,” that centers on a Boston father who, in vigilante-like desperation, kidnaps and tortures the person he suspects is behind the kidnapping of his young daughter and her best friend. So yes, on late Friday we confirmed with Fassbender’s reps that the actor has indeed been offered the lead role of the father Keller Dove, a Bible-reading, deer-hunting survivalist who takes the law into his own hands after he feels failed by a young, brash detective in charge of the investigation who cannot prove that the man he believes is responsible is guilty.

But more importantly, it’s just an offer—will Fassbender take the role? After all, it’s arguable that no other in-development picture in recent memory has gone from as hot to as cold as “Prisoners” has. It’s debatably a major hot potato that many A-listers have flirted with, but then left in the dust.
Sounds like the type of story that, in the right hands, can be pretty great.

Don't get your heart set on this. It is one of those 'black list' scripts yet it has been in production multiple times with multiple directore & stars, even if he agrees, this movie seems to be dogged by some detail that keeps studios from sticking it through.

Yeah, reading the article and looking at how often this thing has been attached to someone and then un-attached is pretty crazy. And Fassbender's only been offered the role, he hasn't accepted it.

So we'll just wait and see. But it sounds like a good project...
