Ok after some thought I can come with the 10 I enjoyed the most. In no particular order.....

Cystal Stilts- In Love With Oblivion

    The Jolts- 8%

    Nick 13- s/t

    Washed Out- Within and Without

The Vaccines- What Did Expect From The Vaccines?

    Brett Dennen- Loverboy

The Rifles- Freedom Run (Hey Dave, Weller plays on a track!)

Frank Turner- England Keep My Bones

Dum Dum Girls- Only in Dreams

    Phantogram- Nightlife

Sharks- Joys Of living 2008-2010 ( I know this looks like a comp that came out in 2010 but it is not. Sharks were unsigned and only had diy eps that were sold at shows and indie stores, after they signed with a label all of their eps were collected and put out as their first album in 2011)

    Best soundtrack-

Put aside that this a sountrack for a Disney movie, Rodrigo y Gabriela destroy and Hans Zimmer is bloody brilliant.

Here Is a new catagory i would like to start: fav re-issues of the year.

Discharge- Early Demos - March - June 1977 (I was a little kid when this came out, but it is cool to hear this stuff now)

The Damned- The Chiswick Singles- And Another Thing [Original recording remastered] (See Above and let me add The Damned are brilliant!)

The Smiths- Complete (I don't actually have this but I know it is great, it has everything they ever did and posters, a Dvd and other goodies, it only will set you back $500!)

And hey JD, I know what you are saying about finding new music. But there are different mags out there that can help and might I suggest you go the podcast route? There are countless ones out there, and yeah, it will take time to find the right one but there are podcasts that feature all types of new music.

that's funny because i wanted to list my favorite re-issues of the year.

brand new - your favorite weapon

i'm a fan of the 2nd and 3rd albums by this band and this is the 10th anniversary reissue of the debut album. i'd never heard this one all the way through aside from songs i've heard live. it's amazing the growth they went through, changing from strictly pop punk to the post-hardcore, almost experimental masterpiece that is the devil and god are raging inside me. you would never know they were the same band.
i was glad they repressed this on vinyl because all of brand new's records aside from their 4th one (which took a dip in musical quality, too experimental) sell for at least $50, this one's original press typically going for $100-150.

    thursday - full collapse

lucero - that much further west

jimmy eat world - bleed american

it's called bleed american. see the colors the 3xLP set was pressed on? get it? amerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrricccccccccccaaaaaaaaaaaa, f*** ya!

    h2o - s/t (15th anniversary repress)

alkaline trio - from here to infirmary

and now you can see why i bought about 100 records this year......

ps. nice to see frank turner in your list. i NEED to get that one.
i just listened to balance and composure's separation, which was also on my "need to listen" list. dug it. gonna need to buy it now, but i want a limited edition copy so it's gonna take some hunting.

    Best 2011 Soundtrack: Sucker Punch

Best 2011 Score: Was going to go with Hanna until I saw The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, which might change that.

Not sure what Drive would fall under, maybe best combo, but it was great too!

Ok, here's my top 10 list. Took me some time, and I STILL haven't been able to listen to a lot of the albums from 2011 I wanted to either at all or more than once. But it's 1/10 and I've put it off too long already.

10 Deaf Center - Owl Splinters

9 Clint Mansell - United OST

    8 Liturgy - Aesthetica

7 Laura - Twelve Hundred Times

    6 Skinny Puppy - HanDover

5 Giles Corey - Giles Corey

4 Tom Waits - Bad As Me

    3 Tim Hecker - Ravedeath, 1972

    2 Chelsea Wolfe - Apokalypsis

1 PJ Harvey - Let England Shake

Honorable mention (because I wrote them down as possibilities when I was making my list):

Wolves In The Throne Room - Celestial Lineage
    65daysofstatic - Silent Running
A Winged Victory For The Sullen - A Winged Victory For The Sullen
Ben Frost & Daniel Bjarnason - Solaris
Fennesz & Ryuichi Sakamoto - Flumina
Kronos Quartet, Kimmo Pohjonen & Samuli Kosminen - Uniko
    Omega Massif - Karpatia
    Oneohtrix Point Never - Replica
    Mogwai - Earth Division EP
    Yob - Atma
    Xela - Exorcism

Also, it's not music, but another favorite from 2011:
