Happy to.
First off, great seeing some of the LGK crew this past year at Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Swans/Portugal The Man, and Tindersticks, respectively. Not only were those shows incredible, but I've got some great memories of hanging with fine folks to go along with them.
Every year I see about 30-40 bands so it's tough to narrow it down to a #1. But I think I succeeded in identifying my fave concert experience this past year. Rather than reinvent the wheel, I'll just steal my post on this subject from another forum. Also, includes some of my fave album releases of 2011--
Prince @The Forum killed it, that's fer sure. It wasn't my top show this year but close. The guy delivers.
APC and GY!BE were also great, but my fave show this year is -
Elbow/DeVotchka
Honorable mention to Elvis Costello and Peter Gabriel. The old guys sounded great!
A few studio releases I really liked this year-
DeVotchka- 100 Lovers
Explosions In the Sky- Take Care, Take Care, Take Care
PJ Harvey- Let England Shake
Here are all the shows I saw in 2011 (Headliners minus openers):
Godspeed You! Black Emperor| Swans| Devo| Coachella| Tindersticks| Elvis Costello| Echo and the Bunnymen| Prince| Peter Gabriel| Flaming Lips| Rush| Hall & Oates| Black Rebel Motorcycle Club| A Perfect Circle| LA Rising| Big Audio Dynamite| Rodrigo y Gabriela| FYF Fest| Cheap Trick| Elbow| Bryan Ferry| Puscifer
Didn't buy a lot of new music this year, didn't go to any concerts
This is what I did buy (all good, no particular order):
Sigur Rós - Inni (Live)
Death Cab for Cutie - Codes and Keys
Wilco - The Whole Love
The Decemberists - The King is Dead
Gomez - Whatevers On Your Mind
Jill Andrews - The Mirror
and a couple of Josh Ritter live CD's:
Live At The Iveagh Gardens, Dublin
Live at KCD Theater, Louisville KY
Edit:
I just remembered I also bought Steven Wilson 'Grace For Drowning' but I was so disappointed by it I forgot I even bought it.
Best albums, in no particular order:
Wolves in the Throne Room - Celestial Lineage
PJ Harvey - Let England Shake
Negative Plane - Stained Glass Revelations
Opeth - Heritage
Mastodon - The Hunter
Hateful Abandon - Move
The Atlas Moth - An Ache for the Distance
Tom Waits - Bad as Me
Concert of the year:
Swans and it's not even close.
My #1 of the year is super obvious, but I need to think about the rest a little more.
SO much stuff I still haven't even listened to...
man, i haven't even really given it any thought.
Well, let's hop to it you two! I'll need some comments from ya both by 12/31 this time. kthx
