And how many can be taken care of by simply stopping your destructive behavior?
It is one of the things that the "pc" world has done lately that drives me nuts...everything is a disease and therefore isn't the persons fault.
It isn't ADHD, your kid is just a spoiled lil **** and needs to get backhanded.
You are fat because you eat too much, it isn't a disease and the last thing you need is a handicapped plaque so you don't have to walk too far on your way to buying more food.
Yes, there are actual medical instances for both of the above examples, but how many are legitimate and how many are just excuses?
My brother passed away a few years ago from Cystic Fibrosis, no intervention could have stopped that from happening, nothing he could have done to extend his life, that is the difference I'm talking about.

I have just finished watching some videos of her early stuff from BBC3. She really was quite good back then. The kind of singer I enjoy listening to a 'bluesy, smokey' kind of voice with a really good range. If 'we' could back away and not get obsessed with drug addiction, politics, etc., maybe someone could post some of those early videos. I don't know how, I am technologically handicapped, or I would.
i can only assume that the ignorance towards addiction displayed by some of you in this thread is because you haven't had the misfortune of having someone close to you be in that situation. because if you've seen it, you know that it's a disease. you can be the brightest, most intelligent person in the world but if you're addicted to drugs, no amount of logic or facts about the ultimate outcome is going to help you.
good for you guys if you've been blessed that way. and i hope that you should stay so lucky that those you love never develop an addiction. or mental illness. because i have a feeling some of you really would tell someone depressed to just cheer up.
But if you choose to have the disease...
should we show sympathy?
Should I expect people to celebrate my lifestyle if i CHOOSE to have a detrimental disease?
Amy Winehouse MADE A CHOICE to do Cocaine, Marijuana, Meth, and drink excessive amounts of Alcohol. YES maybe it is a disease that her mind is susceptible to addiction more so then others...
but does that therefore make it okay suddenly, and justifiable that she decided it was okay to be a coke addict?
Not at all in my mind. I feel bad for her that she got so addicted and attached that she couldn't stop and it led to her death, but EVERYONE...EVERYONE has a choice to NOT do drugs and not submit themselves to addictive behaviors.
And that is the be all end all point of addiction.
If you want to feel bad that someone became so attatched and helpless..by all means, if you want to say the act of BEING addicted is a disease that some people suffer from, then okay...
But don't act like it was a disease that drew her to doing Cocaine in the first place. That is responsibility on the most personal level. And she failed at that. She made a CONSCIOUS DECISION AT SOME POINT...that it was OKAY for her to do Cocaine.
Natural selection folks. Natural selection.
Her addictive behaviors do not become a problem if she doesn't engage in the behaviors in the first place.
