The answer depends on the individual. Some of us are lucky enough to have the necessary....I dunno...DNA???.....upbringing....strength....intel ligence...family....friends...balls to make the right choices.
It's not even a case of being "humble" but being cognizant of the results your actions will bring to your state of being.
That seems a very convenient and clearly wrong viewpoint. If it was as simple as putting the cork in the jug after being enlightened about the effects of addiction there would be no addicts because most if not practically all of those who succumb to an addictive disease know the logical outcome, yet can't or won't stop. That is why the medical community refers to it as a disease, one that some people may be genetically predisposed to. You may not agree with that description and I know that some do not, but I guarantee you this, there have been thousands of people of much higher intelligence than you or I that have died of addiction, knowing full well the potential consequences. I prefer to not look down on people whose brain chemistry has become flawed. I prefer to look at them as walking tragedies and those who can overcome addiction as brave individuals.
Rubbish, and clearly spoken by someone with no experience in this area, are you the kind of person who tells people with severe depression to cheer up?Well, maybe I have a bit of luck with me because in my mind they go hand in hand.
I don't see how it doesn't come down to a matter of intelligence, or rather, lack of.
What ailed this woman was not a lack of intelligence it was an illness that blights a lot of people, I am talking about people with some of the most distinguished and academic back-grounds and to be honest I am surprised that a poster like you who I respect a lot has come out with that.
Aren't there scores of universally regarded geniuses that have knowingly and purposely experimented with drugs or have had huge problems with drug and alcohol addiction?
As a member of the music industry community it's sad to see a talented artist die.
But i can't say I am apologetic or even sympathetic. It was her own undoing and a reckless lifestyle that she herself knew she engaged in. Too many times we are saying that about artists these days. R.I.P Amy Winehouse, but I can't say it was unexpected by ANY stretch.
