Bands that have gotten "better" with time.
The majority of bands that hit the mainstream rise to stardom with a standout song or album.
For instance, Pearl Jam with the album "Ten".
However, they usually hit a decline, and the following albums are not as good.
What is one band you feel has gotten better with time?
In my opinion, the band that stands out to me is the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

May be a cliche at this point but....
How many bands in this day and age have gotten harder and edgier with age?
Listen to Lightbulb Sun....and their latest with the Incident. They went from catchy melodic pop to almost hard edged speed metal in this span all the while remaining true to those who branded them the next Pink Floyd.

Swans, Neurosis, Faith no More, Ulver, Tool, Sunn O))), Behemoth, Pantera ... I could go on.
Neither of those (except for maybe Pantera) "sucked" in the early years though.

I'll never understand the hatred for the Pre-Phil Pantera days. Yeah, they dressed flashy and all, but if you want some of Dime's best leadwork, they are certainly to be found in those early days. He was so young and just unbelievably talented.

Fugazi! Their last record "The Argument" was outstanding. It is still one of my all time favs.
