BFI’s Sight and Sound List Makes ‘Vertigo’ Number One – | Film.com
The first choice is interesting, I mean, it hasn't changed in a while. And this list certainly has more foreign and lesser known films than AFI's list, which last updated in 2007.
Thoughts?
Ozu has two movies before Kurosawa has one!
So judging by this list the golden age of movies was almost 100 years ago.
Yeah, only 5 movies on the list since 1980. Only 2 since 2000.
Ok, here are my thoughts, get ready for a digression!!
No Luis Buñuel? Hitch called him the best director alive!! And we get Wilder's Some Like it Hot? Fun film, love it, but nowhere as his The Apartment! Or Sunset Boulevard!
And yeah, this list seems too old, like ancient, no Allen? Seriously! But we did get a Lynch film! :O
No Alien/Aliens?
And no Schindler's List? Okay, that's just embarrassing.
But anyways, let's get to the the first film, Vertigo beats what has been considered to be the eternal greatest film, Kane. I love Kane, but Vertigo, at least by my standards, is a religious experience. It's my favorite film ever!! :O
I wouldn't mind The Birds on the list!
Oh, yeah, Adgy, dunno if Ozu is better than Kurosawa, but The Tokyo Story makes me feel human. Yeah, top five. Ozu makes you feel human.
And shame on you you haven't seen Sunrise: a Song for Two Humans! :nono:
And I do think that 2001 is the best Kubrick film ever made.
Silly of me, I thought this list was going to cause more controversy, I mean we are film fans, no?
This list, in my opinion, is whacked. Too Eurocentric and old! ;)
It's not that I don't think Ozu is better, I really haven't seen enough of his films to judge, it's more just shock that he gets two before Kurosawa gets one. I mean, Seven Samurai isn't even my favorite of his movies, Ikiru is.Quote:
