I think the first Amityville movie is worth watching, but it isn't quite earth shattering. Dunno, I am biased because I am a sucker for
haunted house films. I saw one of the sequels, and, um, yeah, lame.

Maybe if you're looking to make a series of it, check out only the original Amityville when The Conjuring comes out. Only tangentially related, but the quality should be there.

I loved the original when it first came out. There is one truly memorable scary moment I remember. But it's standard haunted house with the 'true story' angle. Probably pretty pedestrian by todays standards, but you should see it anyway Adgy. As far as the sequels...well Poltergeist had sequels too. Remember any of those?
