SOPA and PIPA bills prompt black outs: Will it matter? | PopWatch | EW.com
Looks like some cooler heads(who want to keep their jobs) are prevailing...still, at the very least, sign the petition people.UPDATE: Sen. Marco Rubio and Rep. Ben Quayle, and other sponsors of the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and Protect Intellectual Property Act (PIPA) have withdrawn their sponsorship of their controversial bills. PIPA’s Rubio announced his move on his Facebook page, writing, “As a senator from Florida, a state with a large presence of artists, creators and businesses connected to the creation of intellectual property, I have a strong interest in stopping online piracy that costs Florida jobs. However, we must do this while simultaneously promoting an open, dynamic Internet environment that is ripe for innovation and promotes new technologies … Congress should listen and avoid rushing through a bill that could have many unintended consequences.” Rubio wrote he hoped others follow suit, and some — like Sen. John Cornyn and Sen. Orrin Hatch, have indeed voiced they have pulled their support of the bills.
I'm sick of hearing about this. These things will never pass so stop worrying about it. Stop the fear mongering.
So you would have everyone ignore it and hope it goes away. That's childish and probably the reason why things are, in general, as bad as they are. The entire entertainment industry(and all of their billions of dollars) are for this as a way to stop losing money to piracy and you think that the government can't be bought. Really. You don't want to read about it or think about it, fine. If everyone shared that 'do nothing' philosophy you just might get your wish. I'll keep 'fear mongering' so that at least I can say I did what I could to prevent it.
Signed the petition.
there's a discussion about this at the music based board I go to & while i can sympathize about the constant SOPA chatter, a good point was brought up about how all those government ignoramuses are out of touch with (or don't care) how this will affect people and that pretty stupid stuff is very capable of getting passed. better to give it a try than not do anything at all.
I won't petition Sopa!
It's time for people to stop illegally downloading Milli Vanilli's Girl You Know it's True.
