Mary-Louise Parker Takes Role Jodie Foster Was Looking At In ‘R.I.P.D.’ > The Playlist
I have no problem with this.“R.I.P.D.” stars Ryan Reynolds, Jeff Bridges, Kevin Bacon and Stephanie Szostak and is based on the graphic novel by Peter M. Lenkov which was adapted by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi who both paired on “Clash of the Titans” and “Ĉon Flux” (red alert?). The film follows a pair of deceased detectives, one a recently murdered cop (Bridges), the other a gunslinger from the Old West (Reynolds), with the former trying to find his killer. Parker will play Procter, who overseas the titular department and explains to Reynolds what the deal is after his character dies.
DC Women Kicking Ass - Azzarello on Wonder Woman - "it's not a superhero book. It's a horror book."
Interesting...First things first. At long last the ongoing question of pants/no pants issue is answered:
“People need to relax, she’s not wearing pants.
And it won’t be a completely new Wonder Woman:
“I can only speak for myself, were doing a soft reboot, we’re not getting rid of her history or anything like that.”
That should settle some fears particularly with the solicit for issue 3.
But it is his next comment that is most interesting and provocative:
But it’s not going to be a superhero book. I can guarantee you that, it’s not a superhero book. It’s a horror book.”
Interesting. Certainly Azzarello can write great horror as anyone who read his Joker knows. But Wonder Woman as horror story? That is a very radical idea.
But, Azzarello explains why he’s going that route:
We’re pushing the envelope with this one. I firmly believe that that’s what this character needs right now.”
Grant Morrison: Psychedelic Superhero | Rolling Stone Culture
Oof, those two really don't like each other.“I suddenly think how many times has somebody been raped in an Alan Moore story? And I couldn’t find a single one where someone wasn’t raped except for Tom Strong, which I believe was a pastiche. We know Alan Moore isn’t a misogynist but ****, he’s obsessed with rape.”
More quotes from the Rolling Stone article worth sharing.
Morrison was into some dark stuff at the time, trying to summon monsters from the work of H.P. Lovecraft. "You can say I'm ****ing nuts," he says, "but anyone can find these rituals online, and if you're too scared to do them, you're the one who believes in the devil, not me."After all this time, he remains enchanted by the essential optimism of the super-hero narrative. "How do we fight against the idea that we are doomed?" he says. "We are fighting against it with the super-human story, which is that there is a future, something beyond this, if we can just get better. You may look at superheroes and just see trash, toilet paper. I'm looking at them and seeing William Blake angels."I can appreciate someone like Chris Ware for his artistry, which I think is beautiful, but I think his attitude stinks, it just seems to be the attitude of somebody really privileged, and honestly, try living here, try living on an Indian reservation and shut up, and really seeing all that nihilistic stuff, it really makes me angry, it's unhelpful to all of us, and it's coming from people who have money and success to talk like that and bring those aspects of the way we live in favor of all the others, and it's indefensible.Originally Posted by Talking about Mark Millar, who he is no longer friends with
I'm starting to feel about Morrison the way I feel about Kevin Smith....
