    ‘Super’…The Animated Series?!
    http://www.geeksofdoom.com/2011/09/0...imated-series/

James Gunn, the former Troma Films writer who hit pay dirt with the script for the 2004 Zack Snyder-directed remake of Dawn of the Dead and made his directorial debut in 2006 with the sci-fi horror comedy Slither, has uncovered something very interesting which he linked to his Twitter feed just recently.

Animation company Toonsmyth Productions has put together a 90-second video trailer for a mock cartoon based on Gunn’s most recent film, the subversive superhero comedy Super that starred Rainn Wilson as a lonely and disturbed man who becomes a costumed crimefighter named the Crimson Bolt, in the hope that some network might pick it up for a series, possibly the Cartoon Network for their Adult Swim line-up. You can watch the video here below.

The animation is very crude, but it’s just a test run. Personally I think a Super cartoon series, while conceptually awesome, would contradict the events of the movie. Seeing the further adventures of the Crimson Bolt and his even more ****ed-up sidekick Boltie (played in the film by Ellen Page) done up as a goofy late-night cartoon would break my heart. Super was one of my favorite films so far released this year. It’s complete and perfect. It doesn’t need to live on as a cartoon. Gunn’s movie was about more than that.

    Two things.

One - If you're operating under the assumption that this is a reboot and should presuppose no prior knowledge of the characters... then Justice League was annoyingly bad. If you had no prior knowledge of "Green Lanterns" or the DCU then you would probably spend half the book saying "WTF is this?" and "WTF was that?"

Two - If you want a comic book where two characters basically wave their dicks at each other for 20 pages then by all means... enjoy.

Have you seen, or do you have any interest in 'SUPER' Doc...it's a LOT similar to that Kat Dennings/Woody Harrelson flick(cannot for the life of me remember the name)...but a little more solid movie wise. I think you might enjoy it, or at least have an interesting opinion about it.

I've been meaning to see it but I just have this sense that I won't enjoy it.

Defendor...that's the WH/KD flick. Super is worth seeing. Awkward pacing and very diy, but definitely worth a watch. Almost an Anti-Superhero movie.

Ok, this is a review I mostly agree with. It actually felt a lot like All Star Batman And Robin...

What was your take on Defendor, JD? I just DVR'ed it.

I have now come to believe that Geoff Johns has no decent original ideas. It seems to me that most of the decent stories from GL over the last 5 - 6 years were all cribbed from Alan Moore characters and ideas and now, exactly as you've said, he's aping the style of Frank Miller.

We'll see how it plays out but so far I'm not terribly impressed.... and issue two is supposed to feature a fight between Superman and Batman..... where did I see that before.............
