D.J. Caruso in Talks to Direct PREACHER?

Ain't It Cool News: The best in movie, TV, DVD, and comic book news.

PREACHER has to be all or nothing. It's irreverent but still pretty epic in scope and to use a trite expression, you can't cut corners. PREACHER deals with subject matter that no matter how gracefully handled is bound to piss a large amount of people off. But if a director is willing to risk it, they can create something special, thought-provoking, and with some truly great moments. It won't be an easy job juggling all that. If Caruso is in the running, I hope he's up to the controversial nature of the work, which for it to succeed can't be sugar-coated. It's a mean and brutal story and it should stay that way.

Yet another reason I think Caruso is the wrong man for the job.

Thanks for the heads up...what were your overall thoughts on Highland Laddie? I have to say I am not really keen on the subject of Jennifer Blood...but it's Ennis...no brainer.

I enjoyed Highland Laddie overall, and I'm actually really glad that Hughie and *censored to avoid spoiler* were able to patch things up within it, but like you, I am really ready for Hughie to be back in the main title with the team. I can see why Ennis did it this way, but I like you I think the main title has missed Hughie a lot and as much as I do enjoy all the weird and Irish bits in Highland Laddie, it's not the same.

The revelation of the who the old man was at the end made me want to re-read the whole thing and I did really like all the stuff between Hughie and the previously omitted name, but... yeah.

As for Jennifer Blood, I don't expect it to be much more than fun. Forgettable, but fun. It'd probably be smarter just to wait for the trade, but I like to support Ennis with my $, especially when it's for a book not by the Big 2.

Warren Ellis interview: RED, RED 2, Jonah Hex, Gravel, screenwriting and more - Den of Geek

Did you ever read the original script for that? It was by the guys who did Crank, Neveldine and Taylor. The script was ****ing brilliant. And they just did horrendous, horrendous things to that film. They just gutted the script, presumably to get it as a 15 or a 12 or whatever.

Such a shame, because it should have actually been a really good film.

Omnivoracious: Graphic Novel Friday: The Grant Morrison Interview: All Things Batman (and More)

Great read. I heart GM forever.

Amazon.com: You originally started with Batman in Arkham Asylum. How has your view of the Dark Knight changed since then, now that you’ve returned to the character?

Grant Morrison: Well, Arkham was kind of responding to the Batman of the time. You know, Frank Miller had just done his Batman and kind of recreated the character as a much more driven, obsessed vigilante. So, with Arkham Asylum we wanted to do something quite different. I think the Dark Knight…was so American and rooted in the hard-boiled and pulp fiction and some of the big themes of American cinema. So we [wanted] to do a Batman back then that was inspired by European cinema. So, we’re kind of taking the idea of Batman and making it much more European, which meant, you know, that it was more ambiguous; it was shifty and shadowy, and the character was slightly undermined by the portrayal--you know, he was a mommy’s boy; he was kind of obsessed [to] an unhealthy degree. So, we were kind of psychologically critiquing that take on Batman, which wasn’t necessarily Miller’s take, but a lot of writers who followed Miller took Batman a little too far down the path of psychopath.
    Interesting.

    Also: more Seaguy coming!

GODDAMNITALL...that really sucks bawls. Hopefully that means that Neveldine/Taylor's GHOST RIDER will be bat**** nucking futs...but damn...Jonah Hex is such an awesome character and the stories they could have told...I just wish studios that make comic book flicks would get it into their heads that they aren't just 'funnybooks'.

Hey Adge, just picked up Jennifer Blood...nice looking book. Is that the artist from CROSSED? The only Crossed I read was the one Ennis wrote. What's the deal with that title? Was it created by Ennis and now someone else writes it, or was Ennis a guest? And do they just do limited issue series sets? Or is there a continuity?
