Rumor of the day: Does Sony 'hate' the new Spider-Man flick? | Blastr

There's a rumor bouncing around out there that the suits at Sony are none too pleased with Marc Webb's take on The Amazing Spider-Man. In fact, according to someone claiming to have an inside source, they "hate" it.

Take this one with a grain of salt, but the folks at Badass Digest are reporting that the recent decision to hire uber-duo Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman (Star Trek, Transformers) to work on part two could have been motivated by the fact that they're not digging the first installment of the Spidey reboot and want some seasoned pros for the inevitable sequel.

"Sony is looking at The Amazing Spider-Man as an investment. I've heard some really mixed things about the movie —much of which originates from INSIDE Sony—but no matter how the film does (unless the film is an unmitigated disaster, and that won't happen with a property like this), they're coming back for a sequel," Badass Digest's Devin Faraci wrote. "We'll see if The Amazing Spider-Man is as troubled as I've heard (the stories that come to me are that the execs hate it, and you can never tell when the execs are right or when they're stupid, stupid suits). This hiring could be the sign of a major change in direction for the franchise."

Is Marvel is ready to put a new actor in the Iron Man suit? | Blastr

I realize that nothing lasts forever but if anyone has made a role his own it's RDJ with Stark. Those are going to be some extremely difficult shoes to fill.

So Sony doesn't like the Spidey movie and they want to hire the guys who brought us the classics known as the Star Trek and Transformers movies? Yeah, makes sense.

AICN COMICS EXCLUSIVE Q&@: Ambush Bug catches up with writer David Quinn on some exciting new FAUST news!!!
Ain't It Cool News: The best in movie, TV, DVD, and comic book news.

I used to love this book back in the day. And I even thought the movie was fun in a made-in-italy direct-to-dvd way. They sure did take their time telling the story with it being, what, over 20 years since the last book came out. Oh well, i will buy it.

Who Will Be The First Person To Cosplay As Boy Chimney? | Bleeding Cool Comic Book, Movies and TV News and Rumors

Dial H, the new series from China Miťville and Mateus Santolouco for the New DCU, most unusually edited by Karen Berger, is a relatively humdrum affair. The plot is straight out of central casting, is lacking in originality, interest, or anything that might set it apart from the standard tropes of the form. Bloke finds a transformative device to save himself and his friend from being attacked, people he attacks then find a way to reprise their attack, it’s all rather been-there-seen-that.

But in the middle, in the glorious middle, comes Boy Chimney. I cannot exaggerate how much you are going to love this guy. A spindly, super strong concoction of grime, grit and smog with an impossible hat, and a line in spouting steam-filled Victoriana. Possessing our lead character he proceeds to dispense soot-filled justice against his transgressors, while battling with his dual nature. And a hat that keeps changing sizes.

It’s basically the second coming of Flex Mentallo. I want toys, I want statues, I want a DC Nation cartoon. Please.
Took a long look at this when I was picking up The Boys 66 today. Simply some of the best artwork I have seen in a while. If it hadn't been about 10 pages of content with just as many pages of ads I would have plunked down for it in a heartbeat. I WILL be first in line for a tpb if this book sticks around.

Not sure if there's a separate Avengers thread but here goes.

The Avengers was pretty cool. Story- and villain-wise it wasn't the best but it was a fun popcorn movie with wall-to-wall action and some funny interactions between the heroes with the Hulk and Iron Man being the funniest. I'm not the biggest fan of superhero movies and I don't read comics but this was worth a watch. Better than Thor, about on par with Iron Man 1 but not as good as the Batman movies, not counting the bad ones.

This still looks iffy. The Lizard is indistinguishable from the bland Abomination in the Hulk and Webb seems to have color coded the city/webslinging shots purely to match Spideys color scheme...but we will have a better idea as soon as word of mouth starts leaking.

    Saw The Avengers last night.

First off, lots of trailers. New Spiderman looked at least entertaining (thought I'm not really interested in seeing it), Lawless (looked cheesy as hell), The Dark Knight Rises (crowd went ape****), Prometheus (sadly no one really responded to it), Frankenweenie (he's making a movie out of this 100 years later?), and Brave (it's Pixar. Gonna make a ton of cash. . .and looks fun).

The movie was pretty entertaining....though it came at the end of a marathon of watching all the Avengers movies previously (fun little deal that AMC and Century theatres ran $20 for the whole thing) so I might have been pretty worn out by that time. Overall I enjoyed it however. Big set pieces and a looooooooooooooooooooooooooot of action. Quick pros and cons....

Pros: RDJ is nails in this. He has the best interactions with each of the other heroes and really keeps it lively. Honestly, if not for him. . .this movie would lose a lot. His energy soars above all the other people. When he's not on the screen, it can drag and you tend to lose a little interest. In digital 3d, the movie looked amazing. Tom Hiddleston as Loki. This guy is the other guy to watch. He really gets a lot to do in this and takes advantage. Not quite as good as RDJ, but he does a solid villain if not spectacular. A lot better than he was in Thor I thought.

Cons: Ugh to Captain America and Mark Ruffalo. Seriously, I was really disappointed in those two. Especially Ruffalo. He just seemed like he didn't belong and didn't feel comfortable. Maybe I just got a bad read on him, but he had ZEEEEEEEEERO energy in that role. Save for one particular sequence, I didn't care for him at all. Too bad they couldn't have gotten Ed Norton in there. As far as Captain America, nothing in particular, but he was just boring to me as a character. Same with his movie though so that guy probably just doesn't hit for me. So be it. Last con to me was that it seemed Black Widow and Hawkeye didn't really get much to do. I'm sure that's a case of too many characters that people have an affinity for. . .but still was a little bummed we didn't get more.

All in all I totally suggest seeing it. It's fun and enjoyable and the cons I listed are pretty tame in terms of what they could have been. Hopefully the next one (if they're able to do it) cleans up some of the things that I had some issues with.
