    But if you read the article it seems as if it is being re-kajiggered for a relaunch

    However, DC has already said in September they're going to have a bunch of #0 issues to show stuff that happened before the #1 issues. There will also be a late August JLI Annual scheduled to be written by Geoff Johns and Dan DiDio, claiming to tie into the "shocking" events of JLI #12 and that it's essentially where DiDio is going to end the tale of O.M.A.C. by revealing his true nature - since his own book was one of those first New 52 titles cancelled. Also of note is that Batwing #12 features the JLI on the cover as well, as he's recently joined that team.

    The fact that Johns, who's currently writing the main Justice League title, is stepping in for the JLI Annual that is asking the question "is this the final adventure ever for the Justice League International?" would seem to indicate that there are plans afoot for some kind of revamp or relaunch (they do love a re-launch). The most recent issue of Justice League dealt with trying to get the team to open itself up to new members, after all, and Green Arrow tried his damnedest to be one of them - only to be recruited by Steve Trevor for a different, unrevealed team. Will they trot out a Justice League Elite, perhaps, to coincide with the release of the animated film Superman vs. The Elite? Or is it just getting canceled like any other book would?

    Vintage 1960s Batman TV show photos - Boing Boing

    This photo is part of a small set of behind-the-scenes photos found in Harald Haefker's flickr photostream. I do not know the backstory but they are wonderful.

    James Badge Dale Joins IRON MAN 3 as Eric Savin

    With production only a few weeks away, the cast is firming up for director Shane Black’s Iron Man 3. Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, and Don Cheadle are all set to return for the third installment of the Iron Man franchise, with Sir Ben Kingsley, Guy Pearce, and Rebecca Hall rounding out the newcomers of the cast. Now one more Marvel newbie has been added in a particularly interesting role, as Variety reports that James Badge Dale (The Pacific) has joined the cast as Eric Savin aka Coldblood. Hit the jump for more.

    The plot of Iron Man 3 is said to draw heavily from Warren Ellis’ Iron Man: Extremis comic series and will reportedly involve nanotechnology and the spread of a virus. Kingsley is set as the villain (rumored to be The Mandarin), Pearce is playing Aldrich Killian, and Hall is poised to play a scientist who matches wits with Tony Stark.

    Per Variety, Dale will be playing Eric Savin. In the comic series, Savin was a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army at Camp Killan who was put in charge of Project: Ultra. More interesting, though, is the fact that the character eventually stepped on a land mine and was resurrected as the cyborg Coldblood via cybernetic surgery. There’s no word on whether he’d appear as Coldblood in Iron Man 3 or if his role in this film is simply setting the character up for future Marvel installments, but it’s certainly an exciting prospect.

    I think Dale makes a fantastic addition to what is already an impressive cast. Credit goes to Black and Marvel for choosing talented thesps in lieu of “pretty actors” or people chosen simply for their commercial value. Dale impressed earlier this year in The Grey, and he’ll next be seen in Robert Zemeckis’ Flight. Furthermore, he has roles opposite Brad Pitt in World War Z and in Disney’s The Lone Ranger.
    Adgy will squee a bit.

    This looks far better than I was expecting. Still, it does look like a mashup between The Cape and a Bowflex commercial, but it doesn't look ridiculously bad.

    Dan DiDio Calls Before Watchmen A “Love Letter” To Alan Moore’s Creation. Plus New Jim Lee Covers. | Bleeding Cool Comic Book, Movies and TV News and Rumors

    DiDio does also respond to Moore’s accusation that DC are “completely shameless” for this project, saying;

    “Honestly I can understand why he might feel the way he does because this is a personal project to him. He has such a long and illustrious career and he’s been able to stand behind the body of work he’s created. But quite honestly the idea of something shameless is a little silly, primarily because I let the material speak for itself and the quality of the material speak for itself.”

    We also get a little back and forth over Moore’s claims that DC is doing nothing but build on twenty-five year old ideas of his, DiDio saying “Realistically some of Alan’s strongest works at DC outside of Watchmen were built off of characters like Swamp Thing which was created by Len Wein, Superman, Batman, so many of our great characters he’s worked on and they helped build his career.”

    The Guardian reports Moore’s response to this point; “I understood that whether I had created the characters like John Constantine, or whether I’d simply recreated them beyond all recognition like Swamp Thing, that these would just go into the general comic company’s stockpiles. I’ve never objected to that. I mean, I don’t think it is necessarily the fairest thing, but I’ve not objected to that, The thing was, that wasn’t what we were told Watchmen was. We were told that Watchmen was going to be a title that we owned and that we would determine the destinies of.”

    And that’s the difference. DC says Watchmen was work-for-hire at the beginning. But at the beginning, the creators said they rejected a work for hire agreement and got one that was described as creator-owned, as aspect that was widely reported at the time. Until the creators realised that suddenly this was no longer the case…
