EDIT: From the comments, a comment by the publisher:
****, if Michael Zulli is going to Comic Con...As for the practical question of what happens to any overfunding? Well, it's true, it doesn't get refunded. We'll be using those funds to do a number of project related things. The first and foremost is going to be managing the shipping costs on (so far) 238 books. We had figured on shipping lots of these, but not this many. This will also enable us to upgrade the book, whether something subtle or something obvious. It'll also allow for and even more insanely gorgeous limited edition. And if it goes beyond that? We'd love to bring Michael Zulli to Comic-Con this year, where we'll be debuting the book. And who knows.? Maybe the momentum will keep going. Be assured that whatever happens, it'll go towards continuing bring out amazing projects by incredible artists. We've already got two projects in the pipeline from Fables artist Joao Ruas and illustration legend Barron Storey.
