And on the plus side: new Batman: Black And White Mini-Series

The Batman: Black & White anthologies over the years have spotlighted an incredible array of cartooning talent, and there will be a
new six issue mini series this September with stories by Chip Kidd, Neal Adams, Joe Quinones, Maris Wicks, John Arcudi and Howard Mackie and art by Michael Cho, Adams, Quinones, Sean Murphy and Chris Samnee. The cover is by Marc Silvestri and it looks nice.
    Neato.

    REVIEW: Dan the Unharmable

This is a complete semi-spoiler free review of the entire 12 issue run of Dan the Unharmable created by David Lapham and Rafael Ortiz, published by Avatar Press.
Dan the Unharmable is a classic noir with a demented twist that you can’t put down from page one, panel one. The book is a hard sell and but you will become obsessed once you read the humor, action, and in depth story linking Dan and mysterious past. The entire series is available for less then $30 at Amazon or ask your comic retailer to order you a volume one and two. It pains me to see such a fine book like this suffer the all too familiar “poor monthly sales” excuse. I commend Avatar Press for publishing this book, but bring it back (damn it). You’re right, Jim. There are some things worth fighting for and this book deserves another shot.
This is a great, weird, funny book. I wasn't even aware it was being cancelled. Damn. Highly recommended.

announcing a new Spider-Man graphic novel called Spider-Man: Family Business. The book, set before Superior Spider-Man, will see Peter Parker learning more about his secret agent parents – as well as find out that he has a sister.
    Uh...

The book will be co-written by Mark Waid and James Robinson (who left DC recently), and painted by artist Gabrielle Dell’Otto.
    Nevermind. Sold.

till Doc Naysay challenges my credibility...no? Can I go on then? ok...

But I still think this was better suited to a television adaptation than, what is likely, a one and done movie.

It's really good. You should read it.

As much as I agree with you about the show....... here's the problem.

The "main character" is a little kid. There's no way to film multiple seasons without having the kid grow up too much.

As usual.... I think the solution would have been to make it a 13 episode miniseries on HBO.

Isn't a trio of movies going to suffer the same problem? Especially considering there is no lock that the 2nd and 3rd flicks will either be made OR go right into production. HBO can suck it when it comes to genre stuff. They had Carnivale, which was flawed but at times sensational and building to bigger things, and they pulled the plug. If it's not a surefire smash they are in the 'quick to lose interest' business. Locke & Key does not have a built in audience. Fringe property at best. Comic book audiences do not translate into ratings/ticket sales. See Scott Pilgrim. By all accounts the pilot was fantastic, but odd. Too bad that Fx was only one station at that point. It would have been served well as a sister program to American Horror Story, and with them now having to create more content, they would have embraced it.

I dunno... HBO does Game of Thrones. That seems pretty darned impressive.

But if not HBO then... I dunno.... crowd source that ****.

I just feel like 10 - 13 episode mini-series is how most works or literature (graphic or otherwise) would be best served when brought to film.

Game of Thrones had a larger audience built in. And a fair amount of mystique. And you can bet your ass that if that first season hadn't hit the numbers it hit we never would have witnessed the Red Wedding.

Well when I say 13 episode mini series I mean Mini Series. Tell the whole Locke & Key story in 13 episodes. No season 2. Just 13 episodes.

13 hours to tell one really big story should be enough.

EDIT : And I know it's too late now but imagine if the Harry Potter novels had been handled like Game of Thrones and not as movies.

Sure they wouldn't have made kabajillions of dollars but they would have been more faithful representations of the books no?

By virtue of running time, yes they would almost HAVE to be.
