Harry saw CONAN THE BARBARIAN 3D. It doesn't entirely suck. There's some pretty cool parts.

Reviews seem to be fairly across the board trending towards meh, but Momoa seems to fare well and apparently the 3d is very good.
Crap, I forgot this had it's own thread. I posted a couple pretty negative reviews in the action thread.
If only that pesky search function was working...

It's been about 27 years since we've seen Conan on the big screen, and I can't think of a better reintroduction for the iconic character to new audiences than Nispel's Conan the Barbarian. The movie looks like a living Frank Frazetta painting brought to life by an incredibly talented group of actors and a gifted director at the helm that somehow managed to create one of the better straight-up action flicks of the year while still incorporating an engaging story that should no doubt prove entertaining to the masses.
Oh, and Momoa's hotness factor certainly didn't hurt either.

Don't really care about the reviews on this one...I spent enough time reading/obsessing on Conan and the Frazetta masterpieces. I go into this with an open mind and I will allow myself to be the judge of whether this satisfies or not. Did you really expect this to get good reviews? Most of them are comparing it to the Ahnold movies. I don't know if you have seen those lately but a)they haven't aged well and b) they themselves got horrible reviews when they came out.
I want to see this. My husband...... not so much. But this would be one of the reasons I want to see this. I hope it does suck so it doesn't take away from his hotness.Quote:

Capone goes a little savage on CONAN THE BARBARIAN!!!

What keeps CONAN THE BARBARIAN from drowning in its own pomposity is Momoa, who is clearly this generation's best choice to play this part. You can tell from watching the smile on his face as he lops someone's limbs off that he cares about getting this character right. I wish others involved in CONAN THE BARBARIAN's making felt the same way. What we get instead is shot after shot of CG blood, monsters and landscapes mashed into a terrible-looking 3D experience. And while I'm fairly certain that the film has some intentional humor strewn in amid the gore, those probably aren't the scenes during which I was laughing the hardest.
I reject the idea that the level of violence in this movie is excessive. It all looks so cartoonish that it might as well have been turned into anime. I found the blood and violence in Warrior or Drive far more disturbing, despite them having quite a bit less in them. Conan is having such fun with his savage ways that you can't help by envy the pleasure his bloodlust gives him. CONAN THE BARBARIAN is actually a close call for me, but in the end I can't quite muster the enthusiasm to recommend what's here beyond Momoa's feral performance. It's good to see somebody get excited about the kookiness going on in this film.
Hurm. ok maybe 3d isn't the way to go here...
