i'm talking about maynard. i'm still pissed over my Tool experience last year.

LOL! Yea, I was just pulling your chain. Apologies for that. Fully aware MJK is a polarizing figure of sorts and his approach of standing in the back, obscured by darkness, is not something everyone exactly loves.

If you were brand new to them, I would absolutely say the "Slow Riot For New Zero Kanada" EP.

It's only two tracks, they're both fantastic and it's cheap. The two songs were played at the Pomona show as bookends to the set, but not last night.

If you're already something of a fan then, honestly, you can't go wrong with any of their discs, especially since they only have 3 albums. The first one, "F#A# Infinity" is probably the most difficult because there's lots of gaps of ambient/field recording sounds between movements, but it's still pretty great.

what a bummer. every Tool concert I've been to was freakin awesome!
what was it about the show last year that upset you? i haven't seen them since 2006.

We were aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaall the way in the back of the venue. Like out in bumble**** territory. I am short so if I wanted to remotely see anything on the stage I had to stand up on my chair or the armrests. And that barely allowed me to clear the heads of the people in front of me. Luckily there was nothing but a wall behind us. I gave up maybe like 1/4th to halfway into the show and sat in my chair and just listened.

And, I swear the mixing in the first half of the concert was no very good. I could not hear Maynard at all. Esp during Stinkfist, which bummed me out cause that's one of my fav. The 2nd half of the concert they must have fixed because 46 & 2 sounded really good.

I was also disappointed they didn't sound "live" to me. Sounded like I was listening to Tool on my ipod. Of course that could be the venue's sound system and acoustics.

Hm. Well I think all that is fixable. I have seen Tool 20+ times since 2006 and I would not say every show was a great show- but most were. Next time out I'd be happy to go with you guys and try to get some decent seats to boot. Maybe straighten out the vibe. Problem is, they are apparently done with NA touring till next record.

In the meantime, I'm happy to hook up for either some APC or Puscifer dates if you guys are interested. Both showcase Maynard in different ways and are certainly worth the scratch.
