Security was ridiculous last night, especially trying to get in. I got there really early and was in line for over an hour to try and get a good spot up front, and after being delayed getting in, long line for wrist band, and long line for beer, the wait was worthless as we couldn't get to the rail. Overall it was a good show. Found a great spot during the opening act, and right before they ended three really tall people moved right in front of me, and pretty much talked during the entire night. It got so packed it was hard to move or find a decent view. Took me about half way through Portishead's set to find the right spot and to be able to get away from that group so I was able to enjoy the rest of the set. Her voice is amazing live. Roads was the highlight for me. I've never heard of the opening act but I thought they were pretty good as well. I'm glad I got to see them live.
Oh yeah, the opening act. Thoughtforms. LOVED them. They sound like half a dozen other bands I love, but I still thought they were great. I would have actually gone and bought one of their CDs, but the ****ing merchandise line was so long THE ENTIRE NIGHT that I just figured I'd skip it.
Seriously, I have never seen a merch line that long for that length of time.
By the way, Thoughtforms has some free tracks available for download if you want to hear more of them:
also just heard about face to face sunday night at the canyon club in agoura. to go or not to go..
i grew up around there. I WOULD TOTALLY GO. if it weren't a sunday. i live in oc now and my husband has to be at work monday so we'd have to drive back down with our kid, but i could totally leave her with my parents. OMG. i'm debating going now.
Saw Roger Daltrey at the Nokia Theatre last night. Pete's brother, Simon, was one of the two guitarists. They did "Tommy" and selected Who songs. Daltrey's voice isn't what it used to be, but, a very, very, very, very enjoyable show.
I saw the Who at the Forum in 1970, the "Who's Next" tour, and there were moments last night when they sounded so much like the original group it was, like, scary and transcendental. Great show!
