helping my parents move sunday afternoon; may not make it after all. 30/70.

Moving to west hills next month, I expect more of these canyon club shows. castle peak ftw!
haha, I grew up in Ventura county (NP/TO) and dated a guy from agoura so I used to spend lots of time in that area. I called the venue and they said f2f will go on at 9 and play till about 11. works for me. we probably won't get back home to OC until 1am though. :-/

I feel old now that a band I used to see a lot at cool venues in my 20s is playing the canyon. I remember driving by and seeing headliners like the doobie brothers and pat benatar advertised on their marquee and thinking it was the old folks' concert venue. lol. womp womp.

not bad. totally weird mix of 20-40 yr olds, but not a complete surprise. my husband said it was not as intense as he's used to, but i don't know what he expected. i'm too old for the mosh pit to go on during the whole show. and yes, there was a circle pit. there were two times though where the moshing cleared out and a couple girls took the liberty to go in and dance like you imagine a cougar would at a cabo wabo bar and the only thing missing is "wooooo!" and cowboy (or girl) hats...
i thought they were going to play until 11pm, but their set ended at around 10:15pm so they played a little over an hour. i wasn't too bummed though because i had to drive back up to NP, pick my daughter up from my parents' house and then drive back down to OC.
they played 1000x, disconnected, i'm trying, walk away, some new stuff... i wanted them to play "do you care?", but didn't hear it.

you know what i never knew? trever said he used to live in westlake village for 8 yrs. i imagine maybe it was when f2f were at their height after the disconnected radio play so he could be closer to LA than victorville was, but who knows. he lives in nashville now. but he said that he used to eat over at the local joint and look at the canyon club wondering what the hell went on in there because he'd see people coming out looking like they were dressed for a 70s disco party.
it is a nice venue though. i was pleasantly surprised. there are comfy couches to sit on while you wait for the show to start. they didn't skimp on the jack in my jack and coke (half the glass!). the sound was pretty darned good. and trever even referred to it as an "intimate" night with f2f. lol.
    here's some pics:

    moshing.

sounds good. I knew he lived in LA, but didn't know it was westlake village.

bummed I couldn't make it, but oh well.

I got an e-mail last night - 3 shows in january at the house of blues susnet.

    1/14 - nofx/lagwagon
    1/17 - nofx/pulley
    1/18 - nofx/no use for a name

I haven't seen no use for a name in a long time, so may gear for that one.

those all look rad. my husband used to really like NUFAN and lagwagon, the former more so.

the only show i really want to go to now is thrice, but all their shows are on weekdays and it's too hard to arrange childcare with either of our parents and still manage to get back home so that my husband doesn't feel like he's going to die at work from lack of sleep. :(

If there were 5 albums I'd need on a desert island, I'm pretty sure no use for a name's daily grind would be on there. (probably along with good riddance - comprehensive guide to modern rebellion, and ignite - a place called home, but thats a story for a different day).

I have some big issues with the last few nufan albums, but there's just something about that tony sly...

thrice is playing in san diego on the 11th, a friday. Although that might cause even more childcare issues.

i think my husband feels the same. he was really into them before he met me and then kind of lost interest, but i remember about 10 yrs ago, they were his favoritest. we also have that good riddance album.

ya, i had actually contemplated going to the show on the 11th and having my in-laws watch the kiddo since they live in carlsbad, but they're not really so good with children and when i get back i always get "comments" about this or that. haha. i've totally not so subtly dropped suggestions about it to my husband to ask them and he had at least 3 chances and didn't so whatever. that's cool. (not really).
i thought i'd have a better chance if they played an LA show on the weekend prior so i could leave her with my parents, whose "comments" i don't feel so bad blatantly ignoring. lol. :D
i'm insanely jealous of anyone who goes though, but oh well, i've seen them tons over the last 11 yrs already.

you should e-mail him and tell him.

change of subject - got the new frenzal rhomb album in the mail finally. so, so good. Think the last time I saw them was about 15 years ago with river fenix at the whisky. Those guys need to come back to the US and tour, stat.

oh btw, this might be of interest to rancid and afi fans. it's not a show per se, but it is a show...
