man all these oc venues are taking me back.
I like chain reaction (minus the few times I got thrown into the side split wall that splits the stage from the entrance. Plenty of hardcore shows in there where the "no stage diving" rule went out the door (also the only venue I've seen stretch armstrong live at). It was fun to park in front of the furniture store across street, try out a couch, then go in to a show.
my first experience at the detroit bar was a buddy asking me to meet for a drink, walking in, and seeing ignite setting up.
i like the glass house. I tend to like venues that are more one open room then those with levels or partitions. It just always seemed to be a far drive from wherever I lived. the galaxy wasn't too bad, it's just bigger than normal (not saying much). the angry samoans seemed to play there a lot. I heard it closed, but no idea if or when.
Just a quick word to you guys about Ghost, THEY DELIVER LIVE!!!
If you missed them this time around be sure to get tickets for the LA date of the Opeth/Mastodon Tour they are on (Sarf) haha.
ya, i hated that partition at chain reaction. sometimes there'd be girls and bitch ass dudes sitting on it blocking my view, but most of the time, i could get on the other side and be ok. my whole college experience and my 20s played out in there though and like you say, the kinds of shows... i used to see alkaline trio there before they moved onto house of blues and palladium sized shows and matt skiba was just inches away from me, i could have touched him and i wish i had... i think the last show i was at was in '08 to see leatherface (rare in and of itself since they don't come over from the UK often!).
the yost was ok. they tweeted me their set time when i asked. win. the lady at the box office kept my ticket. boo. it's a good size and for an acoustic show, the sound was great. it's also tiered so if you are in the back, you can still see over the people in front. it's kind of like the wiltern, but not as nice.
the show was awesome. i only caught matt pryor, anthony raneri and dustin kensrue. i never got into the get up kids and don't think i ever will. i always liked a couple bayside songs and i think i will give their music more listens because i really like anthony's voice. this was probably the best solo show i've seen dustin do. i didn't buy his solo album after going to the record release show in '07 (at chain reaction!) because i wasn't as into it as i was into thrice, but man, his confidence in his solo work has grown since then and there's a lot of power in his voice, matching the range you get when you listen to his work in thrice. he covered songs by thrice, cold war kids, tom waits and bruce springsteen. wow.![]()
i know that one and this one, which is older and from when i initially heard their stuff:
i'm not familiar enough with their albums to recommend any, but i'll look into it and then let you know if there are any that are worthwhile. the good thing about this show is it finally got me motivated to check one of the other bands on the bill out. ha.
here's a review, btw:

This made me laugh more than it should have. I've had that inclination with Brian Fallon while watching Gaslight Anthem.
As for Bayside, I listen to them occasionally. "The Walking Wounded" is their best album IMO and the song you posted is from that album. I think they have 5 full length albums in total.

i like his voice, too. might have to pick up "elsie". i just haven't really had a chance to listen to any of it yet.
