^ I tried like hell. Never got through. Even some of the more "ticket savvy" folks I know failed. Was always a bit of a crapshoot. I'm seein em at Coachella though, so there is that!

that's too bad. i think ian got tix, but i'm not sure.
it seems like you would have a better idea of what your chances would be, but you'd waste a lot more time, if you had to go line up at the venue. being as there were only 100 at each line up spot vs. ~400 online, i probably would've tried from the comforts of my home like all the other old, lazy people. heh.
waiting in line for tickets used to be a badge of honor.
until wristbands ruined the whole thing..
Yeah, I hear you. I'll be seeing Feist, St. Vincent and M83 next month in NY, Wild Beasts next week at Echo (not like I'd miss a second of their set in any case, except maybe if they conflicted with Metronomy, and only because I'm going both weekends). So that takes care of some conflicts, and most of the rest are taken care of by going both weekends.
Looking at the schedule now for Coachella I don't see anything unmanageable. Looks to me like some of the conflicts might do some good in terms of keeping crowds balanced out. Radiohead pretty much has a clear field on Saturday night (which will make for hellish traffic getting out for non-campers).
As bummed as I am to be missing the first round of the playoffs and two glorious away wins against the hated Canucks, I gotta say I'm not regretting a moment being here at Coachella (Coldchella.. Rainchella?) Check out my line up from yesterday:
James
Jimmy Cliff
Madness
Pulp
Mazzy Star
Explosions In the Sky
Refused
I saw all of the above performances from start to finish. I also saw parts of Yuck (liked them) and Arctic Monkeys (energetic performance)
For the Refused show, I was dead center, 2-3 people back from the stage when that freight train hit. Here is my review- pulled from another forum:
This was easily the best show I saw on Friday and it wasn't all that close (although Pulp sure are fuking magnificent). I wasn't sure going in what to expect but that quickly changed once they hit the stage. It was like a bomb going off! I was center pit and made it about three songs in before taking a sneaker to the jaw. I slowly moved... err, was violently pushed to the outside closer to rail but still only few feet from stage. Sore today!
Dennis Lyxzén is a revelation! Holy crap this guy should be a freakin household name! He reminded me of a young Iggy Pop in some ways, at least how he moved. He is still capable of doing all the leaps, twists and shrieks I thought I'd never get a chance to experience live. I was blown away by his and Jon Brännström's energy- nice suit! The songs sounded tight and the rest of the band pounded away like they had never been gone.
Coachella crowd: although I gotta question where some of you learned to crowd surf--the objective is not always "hurt someone by kicking as hard as I can"-- major props for showing up in force and giving back all the energy Refused were putting out. A special shout out to the 100 lbs gal who said "Hey guys... heads up!"- just before she lept off the side railing right on top of me! That was pretty damn awesome, actually. Cute girls surfing usually is. But the dude who kicked me on the jaw? Not so fine.
Great time all in all! And it's going to be almost impossible to top it the rest of this weekend!
if none of you caught Amon Tobin's set, you're really REALLY dumb... easily the best show i have seen in the last 10 years.
I caught a bit of it Ges. I just wasn't in the mood for it after Refused. Plus it was already about a half hour in by the time Refused ended. And there was no way I was seeing Amon Tobin over Refused, despite your disparaging remarks about my alleged lack of intelligence! :P
I caught a few minutes of Amon Tobin after Refused but just couldn't get into it. My cousin caught the whole set and loved it. By that time I was freezing and tired so I bailed. I wanted to see Horrors as well but only ended up watching 2 songs. Overall great day despite the weather. Saw Dear Hunter, Yuck, James, Gary Clark Jr, Arctic Monkeys, Madness, Mazzy Star, Black Keys, and Refused. Gary Clark was amazing as was Refused. I wish I had seen all of Madness though but Arctic Monkeys were putting on a good show. I really wanted to see We Were Promised Jetpacks today but I won't make it back that early. As long as I see fIREHOSE and Radiohead today I'm good.
