the mxpx show was alright. they had an extra guitarist with them, which was kind of weird since i've always just seen them as a trio. they played a really drawn out chick magnet, which was meh... for serious, i walked across the venue, took a wizz, bought a drink and walked back to my friends and it still wasn't over by the time i got back. then they closed with responsibility before mike came on to do a solo set of 3 songs. honestly, the solo set kind of blew. it was just boring. nothing like that acoustic set with kris roe, which i did like. then they came back and played another song or two and that was it so that's also what was kind of weird about the solo intermission. this was probably one of the longest sets i or anyone else in my group have seen mxpx play before though and most of the show was good, actually. oh ya, he called benji madden from good charlotte up to guest on a song and that was also one of the lower points. mostly because i don't care about good charlotte and benji talked too much. they also played a cover of the clash's "should i stay or should i go" which was boner kill. i absolutely love the clash but that's probably one of my least favorites and i know mxpx has better covers.
oh and they showed a mini movie on a big projector screen before their set that was of them reflecting upon the past 20 years and that was pretty nice.
there was a guy who probably only looked about 5 yrs older than me with his two kids there. one of them was a 13-15 yr old girl and a 10-12 yr old boy. that was awesome! and the dad was singing along to all the mxpx songs. haha. i wanna be that parent...

set your goals was surprisingly good live. i went in with low expectations. they do have a weird stage presence though because one of the vocalists is big and pudgy and the other is really tiny and scrawny, haha. neither of them play an instrument so there's all these people on stage, too. i liked them though.

i can't remember much more, the only thing i had for dinner was beer and whiskey...

thankfully, we managed to miss mest and rufio. it was totally funny, some guy near us asked if mest had already played and we were all like "ya... i think mxpx is next BUT we just got here like a half hour ago so..." he looked so bummed, HAHA. then when mxpx was asking the crowd to give it up for mest and everyone in my group was like "blegh!", the guy near us looked so disappointed, he had to leave our presence, HAHAHAHA. who knew there were big time mest fans out there? lulz.

lastly, big time concert no no = wearing a concert tee of the band you are currently seeing. i saw too many people acting like n00bs at this show, ha.

Thanks for the PCU reference. My contention is the only time you're allowed to wear a t-shirt of the band you're seeing is if you're seeing Andrew WK. But normally, don't be "that guy."

I totally want to be that parent too. But with my luck, I'll have to be the dad taking his son to a nickelback concert. wait, what?

beer and whiskey dinners. that makes you a superstar parent right there, doesn't it?

haha. my friend is even more particular. his roommate came along and drove us to the show so we could drink and he asked if we could listen to mxpx on the way to the show and my friend was like "never! not until the show is doneso." so we listened to millencolin and four year strong.

yes, there was quite a mix of new and old. though i'm not sure if they played the song you linked in the PM. mike did mention they have a new album out before they played some stuff off it. my friend was bummed they didn't play his favorite song, i forgot what it was though. it was sort of said in drunken rambling while he blasted it on the car stereo on our way out.

i guess taking your kids to a nickelback show might be better than taking them to a justin bieber concert...? (i'm just trying to think of what could possibly be worse than nickelback ). seriously, i would haaaaaaaaaaaate it if my daughter were all like "i don't want to see hot water music, against me!, or the thrice reunion show, i want to go see the latest boy band/teen heart throb and shriek my heart out with all the other tween girls!" haha.

yes, i set an excellent example.

I'm caught in the middle. at some point kids go through a phase and rebel against their parents by natural instinct, right? If you bring up your kids listening to against me and thrice, do they then in teenage years reebel and gravitate towards katy perry and drake? or do you let them go through the bieber years, then one day walk in hearing some weird noise coming from your room.....what's that? good riddance you say? this might just be my new thing...

of course this coming from a guy who still has a "i listened to new kids on the block when they were underground" t-shirt in my closet..

for sure. i'm not gonna push any of my music on her. ima just try to hide the fact that s***ty stuff exists for as long as possible. it even applies now. whenever the wiggles or barney is on, i make sure the tv is off. there's definitely some hope for her... as a kid, i never really bonded with my friends over music, that didn't happen until i was in college and safe from tween taste. i always kind of did my own thing so i think if she grows up sort of like i did, she'll end up the same and not pulled into liking what everyone else likes. hopefully, she'll have some sense as she grows up and realize i listen to some kick ass stuff on her own.

i think i know a couple hipsters who would love that NKOTB shirt, haha!

the way i feel about the rolling stones is the way my kids are gonna feel about nine inch nails...
