Orpheum? I like the sound of that name!

Too bad I've never been there. :P

Was just there. It's a fairly small place, but last row of the balcony is up there a little ways. I'd guess about another 50% farther than last row of Club Nokia, but I didn't go up there, so I can't say for sure. It's a beautiful venue, though, and sound is pretty good.

Pretty much what he said. It's not a big venue and the balcony seating is a little more steep than you would normally get, but it's also not as far back as you'd get normally. You should be able to enjoy the show just fine from there.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club last night at The Observatory:

Good show. The opening band was awful though.

My only beef is BRMC's stage presence. I know they're going for the Jesus and Mary Chain thing, but it wouldn't hurt to show some excitement. They rely heavily on the lighting to set the mood, almost 100% back lighting with them just being shadows, and didn't interact with audience at all except for one nervous conversation. After all the years they've been doing this, you'd think they'd be used to it. But maybe that's part of their schtick.

Wacken 2015 sold out in minutes with only a fraction of the lineup announced... it's truly the Metal Coachella. I will attend one soon (already did Rock Im Park in Nurmburg but it's not exclusively Metal).

As for Savatage, cool that Jon Oliva will play the songs again without Criss. Hopefully a couple US dates will pop up afterwards.

I keep waiting for Wacken to do what Coachella does and have the whole thing two weekends in a row. It is free money, although maybe the locals would not want to have twice as much heavy metal madness. I think it took 12 hours to sell out, which is still ridiculous, but if I lived in Euro, I'd probably go every year. I made a list of the various festivals I want to visit as part of my travels. I was planning on doing Swedenrock next year if the lineup looked good, but then Wacken came out with the Savatage thing, so back to Germany I go.

Jon has played Savatage songs with his JOP band, sometimes just a few at the end and sometimes as the focus of the show - I think they did a tour in Europe a few years ago where they played the entire Hall Of The Mountain King album. They are doing the entire Streets album in Atlanta next month (Zak and Circle II Circle did Wake Of Magellan last year). But to see Savatage Savatage, that is another level. It is just a shame that there can't be any Criss.

If they do play in the US, I'll be there too.

Stoked for FYF this weekend! Any you guys gonna be there? Schedule was just announced and I don't have any major conflicts. Thinking it looks like this for me

    Day 1

    Joyce Manor
    Real Estate
    Little Dragon
    Slowdive
    Tycho
    Boris
    Ty Segall

    Day 2

    Presidents of the USA
The Bronx (or Built To Spill)
    Darkside
    Blood Brothers
    The Strokes

I really like The Strokes but may be happy to end my night with the Blood Brothers if they turn in the set I think they will. Oh, and hooray for a craft beer tent! If it's anything like the one at this year's Coachella, will be awesome.

    Just bought tickets for this:

    https://www.ticketfly.com/purchase/event/630383

AWVftS is a side project of Dustin O'Halloran, who is a fantastic pianist/composer. And the opener is Hildur Gudnadottir, who is an incredible cellist. Very excited for this show.

Cool. Got tickets for this as well a while back. See you there!

Also, in for Tame Impala at the Shrine in Nov. Pit! Love those guys but I'm hoping the handful of dates they're doing are to try out some new material.
