Yeah...there is something they really should not have left out. I mean Jesus, c'mon...it's like leaving out why Bruce Wayne decided on his symbol being a bat. Poorly done.

While I would have loved to have seen it in the movie, it's really not necessary to leave in when the movie is already pushing 3 hours. You have to cut something out so the studio doesn't freak out about the length. You can't compare it to leaving out Bruce choosing the bat symbol because this story is about Bruce, not Bane. Like I said before, the original script was 400 pages long. I'm sure there are a ton of cool scenes left out. Unfortunately, Nolan never includes deleted scenes on his BD/DVD's so I doubt we'll ever see them.

Maybe he'll put out a scriptbook type thing like there was for Inception.

Or maybe in 10 years we'll get super special editions with all the bonuses. Or something. Maybe.

See, that's the kind of apologist nonsense I expect from Nolanistas. Basically the entire explanation for Bane's 'abilities' swept under the table while other non-essential plot stuff is left to stand. Want to remove some stuff??? Let me suggest some alternates...the entire Matthew Modine sub-plot, which feels horribly disjointed and inconsistent with the rest of the movie and basically stalls momentum. Some of the stuff with Franco from Rescue Me as the special ops guy. Also, a little out of focus and meandering. Those two areas alone would save you enough time to include 'WHY BANE WEARS THE MASK AND BACK BRACE'. But no, Nolan falls in love with his work and runs overlong while leaving out PERTINENT plot/character information. And you make excuses for it. Hell, even some of the JGL stuff could have been excised in favor of explaining why Bane was 'the Humongous' from Road Warrior.

I never had a problem with it. We see him get ganged up on and later, we see his face is ****ed up and are told he wears the mask to keep the pain at bay. Why do we need all of it spelled out?

BECAUSE IT MAKES ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE WITHOUT AN EXPLANATION. I need details. Otherwise it's like saying he is a Mormon and his underwear give him special powers(my apologies to anyone offended by that). You can't use Bane...who, like it or not was provided with a backstory and explicit explanation of the workings of his mask, and, because you don't like the cartoony aspects of it...remove the reasoning and replace it...with nothing. You want to make Joker scarred and make-up wearing to heighten the reality...I will allow it. But it almost feels as if Nolan, like Raimi w/Venom, hates the character and simply uses him as a means to an end. I don't need EVERYTHING wrapped in a tight little package, but to allude to the healing powers of the mask, and the horrible injuries Bane suffered, and then...because you don't like the details, simply omit them...Sorry, but that's bad filmmaking. And yes, I do compare not fleshing out your villain to say F'rinstance...not doing an origin story on a superhero. How did Iron Man get his armor??? Shut up...he just did. Stop apologizing for Nolan.

I finally saw this.

So....is bruce wayne still alive, or was Alfred imagining seeing him at the end?

Kingsqueen asked the same thing. I saw it more cut and dry that he was alive. C'mon...they hammered the whole autopilot plot point like Sloth and a square peg/round hole. They wouldn't have gone to all that trouble with the wink/winky 'oh, it says the repairs were done by Bruce Wayne' crap if they wanted you to think otherwise. Least that's how I saw it.

I thought so too, but then I thought man they really had Alfred crying up a storm at his tombstone. Plus they never showed anything of how he got out of the helicopter. Although maybe the autopilot took care of that. who knows.....i'm ready for expendables 2.....two hours of not having to "think"
