But it didn't work... and then about a million opportunities to use Alfred in the context of the story go by unused when they would have been uber convenient fixes for GAPING plot holes and offer up reconciliation. I know it would have ruined that nauseatingly saccharine moment in the epilogue but it would have made for a far more involved and therefore consistent and believable Alfred.
This entire movie is full of characters doing exactly what's needed to set up the next little sequence of events but very little of it makes any actual sense.
