Not really. I didn't hate it... I think comic book movies have entered this new territory where they need to be reclassified.

Movies like this and The Avengers are so well made and such huge spectacles that I feel like I should ignore all the glaring plot holes and cliches and predicable conveniences and contrivances.... but I just can't.

Sure. It was mostly stuff like Bob mentioned that most likely was not added into the script for that purpose, but... it's there.

It's awfully heavy on the praise... and then there's this....

The structure, and character motivations, are somewhat messy.

There are a few glaring problems with suspension of disbelief

The more I think about the more the parallels between this flick and the Avengers start to bug me.

The one thing that did throw me off in the beginning was Bane's voice. I saw the prologue before MI4 6 months ago and although it was hard to understand, I remember liking the sound and just hoping they could tweak it a little to make it a little more clear. Part of the problem was that the airplane noise was too high. This time, they brought the noise down but both the voice and delivery are drastically different. Deep voice and sinister delivery on some lines rather than what sounded a little comical in this version. It got higher pitched and for whatever reason, it sounded different even from the rest of the movie. I do understand though that they were going for a contrast between the voice and his eyes.

This entire movie is full of characters doing exactly what's needed to set up the next little sequence of events but very little of it makes any actual sense.
I just don't agree. Maybe I'm not understanding you but having Alfred just go along and helping Bruce get himself killed would have been inconsistent with his character. Not the other way around. There are numerous occasions throughout the series where it's made clear that Bruce wants a normal life and the Batman persona is a miserable existence. Bruce has been out of action for 8 years at this point. His body is beaten down, he's out of shape, and he's not as young as he once was. After that much time off, it would make total sense for Alfred to hope that Bruce has moved on. He even tries to get him to meet Miranda/Talia in hopes that the two could build up a romance (hinting at how lovely she is). He wants a normal life for him finally. And the breaking point to happen when it did makes total sense when you consider he was lambasting him for showing off with his new toys. Something he also did in Batman Begins.

And I just don't believe that THIS is the line in the sand that Alfred would draw.

Alfred has helped Bruce/Batman in the face of almost certain death before... why does he change his mind NOW? Well I might believe your explanation except that as I've stated.... we never hear from him again except in a clearly green screened sequence (that evidently I'm the only one who noticed) and then a schmaaaaaaaaaltzy as hell epilogue.

So I just feel like they needed a way to write Alfred out of the movie and they went the over the top emotional heartstring tugging scene that got most of you all teary eyed even tho it was a stretch.
