I want to amend my nope....
It's not a problem... BUT....
it means that ultimately it's just another "Comic Book Movie". It's a very pretty and very nice "Comic Book Movie" but ultimately it fails to "transcend" the genre. That's not a "problem" per se... but I had hopes that it might.
I would have agreed... but there were just too many conventional "comic book movie" type moments/macguffins/plot holes in it for me.
To me it just makes The Avengers and now The Dark Knight Rises the king of pinnacle achievements in a genre that I'm growing less and less fond of as I get older.
The Dark Knight Rises could have been the movie we needed but instead it opted to be the movie we deserve.
Ok...lemme chime in here because, well...you know.
1. Dick Grayson was an orphan that became a cop when he was Nightwing. Blake was an orphan that became a cop...then (probably) became either Robin or Nightwing.
2. Yes, Tim Drake figured out who Batman and Robin were, and that's how he became Robin.
3. I don't think Jason Todd figures anything into this. (he was killed by the Joker and was the 2nd Robin)
4. None of their names were used because then EVERYBODY would have known who he was from the beginning. Granted, some of us kinda knew anyway, but I guarantee the vast majority of the population had no clue.
5. I liked the new origin of this "Robin" because it seemed more realistic than having a 12 year old kid fighting at your side in Nolan's Gotham. That, and I like Joseph Gordon Levitt.
6. I'm still pissed that they didn't call me for that roll. But that would have given away who the character was too, so I might forgive Mr. Nolan for that oversight.
7. I feel sorry for the poor bastard that does the next Batman "reboot".
8. The Superman trailer before the movie looked badass! But before they showed the kid in the cape, they showed a boat, a lighthouse, and the ocean. Am I the only one that thought "No way...an Aquaman movie"?
So instead of just stating over and over how terrible Alfreds role was in this, why don't you actually give an opinion on how it should have been done.
I think you're missing my point. It's not that I particularly dislike how Alfred was handled in the movie... I just feel like his absence from the movie was obvious and it took me out of the "moment" of watching a movie. There's a number of ways they could have fixed this.
1. Have Bane kill Alfred.
2. Have Alfred find Bruce wandering in the desert after he escapes the prison and ASSIST him in returning to Gotham to defeat Bane.
3. Anything more than what they did... which was essentially nothing.
