THE DEVIL INSIDE Director to Helm THE VATICAN for Warner Bros.

The surprise-hit status of The Devil Inside is proving to be rewarding for the film’s director. William Brent Bell, who helmed and co-wrote the found footage horror pic, has been set by Warner Bros. to direct The Vatican. Deadline reports that Bell will helm the conspiracy driven thriller that was scripted by David Cohen (No One Lives). No plot details are given, but the film will be fast tracked by Warner Bros. and is described as a hybrid that uses some found footage techniques.

The Devil Inside was acquired by Paramount for a mere $1 million, but opened to a record-breaking $34.5 million last weekend. Interestingly, the film was met with a harshly negative reaction from both critics and moviegoers. The film’s Cinemascore, which gauges audience reaction, was an “F”. Nevertheless, WB seems to be high on Bell as they plan on moving quickly with The Vatican.

I am too surprised that the movie made a lot of money. If those lame Saw movies can make a killing then anything can. Haha!

And yet some good horror gems get straight to DVD treatment.

Well, at least JD took down that creepy signature pic of that woman that looked like my grandmother.

I'm telling you...see this when you get a chance. I guarantee it's better than a Paranormal Activity movie is...sure, it has an abrupt conclusion...but it is almost as if the story was starting to grow to the point that they couldn't keep up with, so they made a smart move. It's not at all as egregious as the reviews would make you think. And I read a review recently that took all of these 'found footage' films to task. It expressed that they are all slow burn, with a sleight of hand/twisty/Shamalayan ending. They at least conceded that this movie was throwing stuff at you all the way through...even at the cutoff. I actually like this movie the more I ruminate on it. It delivered on all promises.

I saw it and didn't have a problem with the ending. Not everything should have a pretty Hollywood ending. That's not real. Having said that, I thought the movie was just meh - meaning that while I didn't mind how the movie ended, I didn't care enough to go to the website to find out more.

Figures. I don't think that I have heard many people watch it and they say that they liked it.

Haha! I would rather watch Beauty and the Beast 3D! :D
