O, well, just plain bad ending. maybe they want to shoot a movie so they kept the door open.....
See, this is what's so stupid, I guess they wanted us to see that Dexter now lives a somber, monastic life of contemplation and regret for his past sins but if he really wanted to punish himself, why not turn himself in? Admit what he did and pay the proper toll for his transgressions. Instead he gets to enjoy the life of a logger? As if that's some sort of personal hell?

BUCK: The kernel idea were the last few scenes. They were what I pitched a few years ago. The main idea was Dexter is forced to kill Debra.
and that's how they potrayed that idea???

I could go on for an hour about the ending but I just don't have the time right now. This series got so bad that it almost came full circle and became awesome for how bad it was. The only thing missing was Nicolas Cage to send it over the top.

Nic Cage OR Harrison somehow rescuing Hannah by killing Elway.

After hating it upon watching it, reading this and a day of reflection has made me slightly more "okay" with the ending.

Having said that, it was still a brutally bad final season. The imagery of dropping his "final victim" into the ocean was supposed to be powerful, but all I could think was, what did Deb do to deserve this? It's bad enough that you got her killed, now you are depriving her of a proper burial and those that loved her a chance to say their goodbyes? Why wasn't the "I love you" and plug pull enough?

People keep clumping the "last four seasons" together as terrible. As I've stated before, I know I'm in the minority, but I loved Season 7. It had me anxiously awaiting every Sunday again.

This season was just back to going through the motions. I don't mind any of the decisions that they made; making Dexter "human", having him fall in love, killing Deb. What I mind is the super sloppy execution... the filler, the stupid out-of-character decisions, etc. Crazy that what was once my favorite show may end up falling out of my Top 5 with some reflection.

Meh...it was a super unrealistic wrap to a super unrealistic season of a show with a super unrealistic premise in the first place. At least it was unique and I'm OK with it. Kinda like sex and pizza: even when its bad, it's still pretty good. Hell, 10 years ago every show was either a cheap imitation of Seinfeld or Hill St. Blues.

Gonna try to get caught up on Boardwalk now. Ciao.

IMO, season 6 was the only decent season of the last four. There were a couple creepy moments with the religious stuff and Deb finding out at the end was good. Having said that, I would still recommend a newcomer to only watch the first four seasons.
