I both love and hate cliffhanger endings. Is it time for next season yet?

This is the first season finale that I've actually liked in a while. I think they did a good job with the suspense, plus most of it actually made sense. Unlike a lot of the season 4 finale, and the season 5 finale which held a bunch of drama and they just dropped it.

I really thought this season blew, but the very end was great. Now we wait 10 months.

Wow. I have the exact opposite opinion. The season was great up until Gellars body was found in the freezer. Smart, tense and most importantly logically sound. The last few episodes have been filler where Colin Hanks' character became one dimensional/silly and contradicted most of what they did in the first half of the season. And that end? ARE YOU KIDDING ME???? First, no subtlety whatsoever. If Deb had found the hand, or some other hint that set her on the trail of her brother...that I could see making for great drama and, more importantly, would have been realistic. But her walking in on him...C'MON, we all know Deb, it would have been through tears, but she would have had her gun drawn before Dexter plunged the knife in. They even demonstrated Deb's slavish need to do things right with the hooker in the hotel room plot. There is no possible way I can see that they can carry this for 2 more seasons without completely compromising the characters they have spent 6 seasons establishing. They have played fast and loose with Dexter's common sense for too long. Killing a guy in plain view of witnesses on a boat, using a kill room that he knew was still in play, etc. Look at the past few seasons, if Dexter had any humanity he would be able to clearly see that he is the common element that puts his loved ones in jeopardy. Look at this season, the entire precinct(including Deb) and his son could have been killed due at least partially to his involvement. After Rita, you would think he would be more sensitive to these things. NOPE. This show is an implausible mess and I am pretty sure that ending was one of those Arthur Fonzarelli on water skis moments.

While I agree it got silly/sloppy at the end, there is no way it was that bad.

Best finale in a while. BUT, they have been putting Dex in some strange situations that I thought were a ways out there. Fast and loose to say the least. So which will win out, brotherly love, or Deb's commitment to law & order? Maybe she runs back to the shrink.

But you'll still watch it, won't you? Slut.

Yes, even though this show continues to not only insult the collective intelligence of it's audience, but drags it into an alley and does unspeakable things to it. I will just temper my expectations that this show will be anything more than a 'Twilight'-esque mess as far as logic and character development. Hats off to Deb, btw, what could have been a season of hysterics and annoyance was really well done and i.m.o. made her the moral center/most sympathetic character on the show. Looking forward to the writers tossing that down the ****ter next season.

Interesting little Q & A with the executive producer....
Dexter Boss on the Finale Twist: It's Finally Time to Deal with [SPOILER!] Head-On - Yahoo! omg!
While I don't feel as strongly as JD about the finale...I was a little disappointed. There was no real fear that either Dexter or Harrison would actually be killed (Dexter, for sure/as usual...but hopefully by the final season we can actually have that uneasiness). It was just a little *yawn*...yeah, yeah, yeah, bad guy's gonna die. I did like the ending, though...and look forward to see what they do with it next season.
Now, Homeland...that was a good finale!

I say the shrink is the villain for next season.
