Loved the Goon Show, listened to it every Sunday live on BBC radio. After that was the I'm Sorry I'll read that Again Show live which had most of the characters and was the start of Monty Python.
I still have a couple of those shows on my reel tape recorder.
Got to love the surreality of the Goon Show stories, and the persistent skewering of all authority figures. I remember watching that award show in the 80s where they gave Spike Milligan a lifetime achievement award--best acceptance ever: upon receiving the award he says "it's about time!", and then when they start reading some letter of appreciation from Prince Charles, he says "the grovelling bastard!".
