i'm so so on the palladium size-wise. if the sound were better it would make going to a place that big more worth it, but i found myself avoiding a lot of shows that i might have been on the fence with just because it was at that venue. kind of like how i dumped my bad religion tickets as soon as against me! dropped off the bill.

i'd say my favorite venues over the years were/are the troubadour, el rey, henry fonda, glasshouse and chain reaction.

Troubadour is definitely one of my favorites. I love the size and layout, and the bartenders are always really cool. I like the Whisky as well, although it's often very hard to get a seat upstairs if i feel like relaxing, if you're not there plenty early. The bathrooms however...my god

Reminds me of Che Cafe in san diego too, which I loved because (a) it was on campus at ucsd, and (b) it was about the size of my dorm room.
Soma in san diego was very good too, until they rebuilt it and went all hollywood. (half kidding)

ya, i'd like to have taken that half partition at chain rxn out. i REALLY hated when some girls would sit on it so if you were behind that partition, closer to the entry door/smokers' alley, you couldn't see the stage. it was otherwise a great place, great size and i have great memories there.
i think i've been to soma once and i barely remember it because i was on my way to the less than jake show there and totaled my car. after all was said and done (towing, insurance trading), we still went to the show but i wasn't really into it at that point.
as far as SD goes, i liked cane's bar and grill, which doesn't exist anymore. i'm still mad at my friend (who also went to the LTJ show with me) for making me miss AFI open up for rancid because he wanted to shoot pool and have some drinks before heading over.
