Widow of Stieg Larsson Discusses His Legacy - SPIEGEL ONLINE

Larsson planned to write 10 books about Salander's adventures. When he collapsed in his office, he was carrying his laptop in his backpack. There are still many rumors on that laptop, which has become famous because the hard drive allegedly contains the almost complete fourth volume, which Larsson had been working on during the last few weeks of his life. The laptop went with him to the hospital, where Gabrielsson allegedly had it in her hands.

And where is it now? Gabrielsson says that she doesn't want to talk about it.

In her book, she writes that the fourth volume will be called "The Vengeance of God," in which Salander will free herself of her enemies and demons. According to Gabrielsson, Larsson had already written 200 pages. She also writes that she is capable of finishing the book.

    But will she?

Oh no, says Gabrielsson, she has changed her mind about that. "Stieg is dead. There are three books. We should leave it at that."
    Probably better that way.

I really would have loved to read 10 books about Lisbeth, though...

'Dragon Tattoo' Sequel Won't Arrive Earlier Than 2014; David Fincher Still Not Confirmed | The Playlist

This is all a long way of saying that the earliest we're going to see "The Girl Who Played With Fire" is 2014 because there is no production scheduled on the horizon anytime soon. In fact, although he essentially finished a draft last year, apparently Academy-Award winning screenwriter Steve Zaillian was is still tinkering with the screenplay. Then there's the question of whether David Fincher will direct--specifically, whether he wants to and whether Sony wants him back (stars Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig are contracted for a trilogy so they're already locked in). Fincher butted heads with producer Scott Rudin and Sony on the project, so there's at least some residual bad blood, and "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" was successful globally, but barely made its own budget back domestically (and didn't when you count promotion and advertising).

Dragon Tattoo Sequels Might Be Rewritten To Get Rid Of Pricey Daniel Craig - Bleeding Cool Comic Book, Movies and TV News and Rumors

Despite Stieg Larsson‘s Millennium trilogy really revolving around the author-surrogate character of Mikael Blomkvist, rumours are afoot that Sony could have the character written out of the sequels. They want to produce these things to a particular budget and Daniel Craig‘s request for a raise is making that hard.

On the other hand, The Hollywood Reporter note that Steven Zaillian‘s script, with Blomqvist included, is considered ready to roll and Sony would be keen not to commission a rewrite. Zaillian’s not cheap either, so there are money problems abutting the project on that side too. What’s more, Zaillian is also now busy elsewhere, bringing Criminal Justice and James Gandolfini to HBO.
