You know...I feel the exact opposite. The original was hyped to death. I think people have gone back and realized it's an average movie. I am actually looking forward to this one, maybe due to the fact that folks seem to be more realistic about this one. I expect a few good laughs and nothing more. I still want to punch Bradley Cooper right in his smug face though. He may be the nicest joe in the world...but that face just cries out for a punching.
Ok, so I'm reading all the "critic" reviews on Yahoo Movies (average C+ rating)...and all the bad(ish) reviews, based essentially on how raunchy it is, is just making me want to see it more. Thanks for the heads-up, critics!

Well. I saw it last night. I can honestly understand fans of the original NOT liking this version. I didn't buy into the hype on the first one. For a long time I hated it. I tried it a few more times and while I no longer hate it I see it for what it is. A mildly amusing movie. Nothing more nothing less. So, did I like part 2? Hell yeah. This is more of what I was expecting. This movie is DARK. As a matter of fact, it works better as a horror movie than a comedy. There is one particular 'situation' that goes WAAAAAAY farther than I would ever have expected, complete with pictures at the end(what? you thought they wouldn't go back to that well...). Minor complaints...it's not all that funny. Alan(Galifinakis) goes more 'full retard' in this one which felt really forced. And the resolution between 2 characters*** is ridiculous considering a couple of events(wanted to go spoiler free so no details but you should know what I am referencing when you see it).
All in all a good flick which may not satisfy fans of the original.

Friday Box Office – THE HANGOVER PART II Easily Dominates with $61.6 Million Over First Two Days
Is it just me or does Ed Helms look eerily like a young Fred Gwynne?Derivative? Check. Well reviewed? Not really. Kicking crazy ass at the domestic box office? Oh, hell yes. I am, of course, talking about Warner Brothers’ The Hangover Part II, the film that has already broken the one day record for a live-action comedy with its stunning $31.7 million Thursday debut. That was on top of its $10.4 million midnight take – easily the highest of 2011. Day two for the Wolf Pack brought in an additional $30 million from 3,615 locations, giving the film a current estimate of $61.6 million in total. If projections hold, The Hangover II could end up with a five day total of over $135 million and a spot in the top five of all-time (four-day) Memorial Day Weekend debuts.
I liked the darker edge to this one. Some good lines that I won't repeat here.
The first one is another one that I'll stop and watch when I see it on cable.
