Nice. Hope it's good!
Yeah...just saw it on the big tv on AOTS. I love the dwarves. The real fx/prosthesis...but the cgi is soooooooo overwhelming. So off putting. WHY?????
Hobbit star hasn't read book and 'I ... don't like people who have' | Blastr
When asked his opinion on Tolkien's writings, the actor had some choice words about the books and the fan devotion they inspire:
"I could never read Tolkien. I always found him unreadable ... I didn't read [the books], and I normally don't like people who have! The people who love it, they're kind of scary. They talk all this gobbledygook and they think of it as the Holy Grail."
But, that's not all. Connolly goes on to expand on his thought, and says fans shouldn't take it so seriously when things might be tweaked to adapt the book into a film:
"But invariably, there seems to be a sector of the press that is consumed by The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, and it's indicative of that notion, that it's the Grail. So whatever I say is rubbish, but then I become answerable for it! People get all upset, they get terribly upset about anything that has to do with it, as if it were real! It's a story! Just relax! It'll go away and you'll be just fine. Don't panic."
You've got to respect the guy's brutal honesty, but it's a pretty gutsy move to take a shot at a true fantasy classic. Even more so if you're starring in films based on the book.
Wow. I guess there's some degree of truth to it but I'm surprised he took it that far.
So don't like me because I like the Hobbit? Thanks. I don't think it's the Holy Grail, well, because the Holy Grail is a cup not a book, haha.
I am pretty sure Peter Jackson is so not amused by this and it's disrespectful. If you are an actor and don't like the source material, why even bother taking the role. I guess he must really need a paycheck. Gee, guess, what those fans who he doesn't like and are Hobbit fans, will line up, and pay his salary.
But if he prefers, he can take out my trash tomorrow morning, I'll give him 5 bucks.
