I was a little concerned about the 48fps, but after reading how it relates to a greatly enhanced 3D viewing experience it sounds pretty exciting.

I want to watch the Hobbit and all, but 3 is really milking it, no?

He should just make a film of The Silmarillion instead (not that I've read it. ).

if he is going to stretch the Hobbit to 3 movies, he could probably get 15 out of the Silmarillion.

    Not that I'm complaining.

If the Hobbit is another huge hit I wouldn't be surprised to see one of the Silmarillion stories be made into a movie eventually. And that'd be pretty damn cool.

The Silmarillion reads like an encyclopedia. That thing is as boring as watching paint dry. I've tried to read it at least 5 times and I get a 1/3 in and just go "meh" and reach for the xbox controler.

My only problem with making The Hobbit into 3 movies is how long we'll have to wait to see Smaug.

Yeah, you've really got to be interested in the world and lore of middle earth to get through it. It's a rough read no doubt, especially the beginning, but there are some pretty good stories in there once you get passed that part. The narrative isn't anything like normal books since it just present a collection of condensed stories in chronological order. But those condensed stories can still make for a great movie as long as good writers fill in the blanks.

I personally enjoy it a lot but it's definitely not for everyone.
