I agree this was a big disappointment.

K&T - you stole the words I was going to use - "Louie get a shot of this!"

I don't often find myself agreeing with Adam Carrola but the world could use more Huell Howser's. I really enjoyed watching him and "California Gold."

Huell was genuine and his enthusiasm for the things we take for granted was infectious. My personal faves were:
    The homeboy industries tortilleria
That long steep driveway in 'frisco
That store in eagle rock with a gagillion sodas
    The pigs ear episode
    Hollywood sign

That is what i recall right now.
"Wow... That is amazing. Louie, get a shot of this."

The soda shop is Galco's; that was a fun episode and a trip down memory lane for fogies like me.

I also like the show he did at Broguiere's Dairy as well. When my wife and I were amassing our collection of Kings bottles, I ran across one of the Huell Howser bottles the dairy had made for that show; it sits on my desk and is the dispenser for whatever candy du jour I happen to have at the time.

Another one of my favorites was the abalone farm on the Central Coast. Really caught the essence of Central California and how unique a place the state is.

Gosh I miss seeing those episodes.

Up here in the Pacific NW PBS continually shows this story of a guy from the early 1960's who retired as a car mechanic in Portland and decided to move to interior Alaska. He ended up hand building a log cabin out of the local area over one summer and then moved there permanently where he lived, alone, for over 30 years. His story has always reminded me of something that Huell would've loved. "Alone In the Wilderness" is the title of the documentary and if you can find it I would suggest watching it. It is fascinating watching Dick Proenneke build and live in one of the most remote areas of Alaska.
