I seriously thought this concert was a joke...

Because everyone is more tolerant when it comes to discussing movies. Music is more incendiary...it is like politics/religion around here. And music is also more subjective. If I don't like something musically, it's more abstract, I cannot present an argument based on 'I don't like the way it sounds'. Movies, have actual details that can be discussed. So yeah, in my opinion there is a difference. I try not to criticize movies that 'I don't get' unless I have really strong opinions. You won't see me discussing too many dramas, because that isn't what I like. If I critique a movie, it's usually because I wanted to like it and was let down. I try not to make blanket statements like, oh that sucks.

I wasn't singling you out btw, and I meant no offense...I just felt that it was too easy to pick on this and felt I needed to state my case. Like I said, I usually stay out of music discussions, and probably should have this time too.

The fact that you called this an "easy target" should tell you how horrible this show is, and kind of makes my argument at the same time. I may be one of those "music snobs" around here, but contrary to what you wrote, I am quite used to people bashing my taste in music. In fact, I almost expect people (the average Joes) to NOT like most of the bands that I enjoy. Also, as Goallum stated, I can appreciate that peoples' tastes will vary on what they like, and on many occasions mine will not coincide. I can respect peoples' loves of music that I don't really care for. This though...

The show in and of itself in my opinion is a bad idea, but I know there will be a few people interested in going. What REALLY got my knickers in a twist was that it's at Verizon Amp. That's over 16,000 people. Really? Are the promoters THAT out of touch with reality? I mean, if it was at...hell even at Gibson I would be surprised but it would make a lot more sense than at a 16,000 person venue.

Again, at first glance I really and honestly thought it was all a joke...like that fake Coachella lineup that gets posted every year. I started this thread because I couldn't believe it and figured people around here would get a laugh.

And as you know JD, there sure are some movie/tv snobs around here. Remember the Heroes thread? And that is just one show. How many people were s******g on us for watching it?

I dunno man, like I said, I usually tap out when it comes to music stuff...it just seemed like it was unfair everyone ganging up on this show and these bands for the obvious reasons. Hell, half these bands have been around a bit and Buckcherry/Papa Roach are usually out every year...usually as a package and at smaller venues, but they must have enough of a following to give it a go. It's a cheap ticket and to be honest, if I still went to shows just to go to shows it would be a harmless afternoon of beer drinking, people watching and dumb fun in the sun. The whole music snob thing...well, I am going to be very careful how i phrase this, it is MY OPINION that a good amount of people think that their tastes are more sophisticated than others and look down their nose at certain forms of music. It's one thing to critique, it's another thing altogether to dismiss entirely under the guise that what you like is more valid than something someone else might like. In other words...some people take this **** too seriously and forget that music is supposed to be fun. There are tons of forms of music I do not nor will ever 'get', but I just move on.

And I guess part of me went all 'schoolyard' and wanted to stand up for the little kid everyone was picking on.

Dunno, I am a much bigger movie and book snob, than music snob.

Yeah, I read crappy books (thanks to school, lol) and watched crappy movies, but practically just to laugh and amuse myself, lol!

Some crappy and cheesy music makes most of my guilty pleasures. ;)
