I found the direction to be sub par as well.

Christopher Nolan isn't just the answer to all questions. He's the answer to questions that have never been asked.

Other actors who were considered when Daniel Craig was chosen to play James Bond, four of which made it all the way to a screen test:

Clive Owen (one of my choices back then)
    Karl Urban
    Gerard Butler
    Colin Farrel (ugh)
    Orlando Bloom (double ugh)

And the four that made it to a screen test:

    Sam Worthington
    Henry Cavill
    Goran Visnjic
Alex O'Loughlin (my mind is completely blown, and not in a good way)

Sorry...hate to break the chatter, but Sir freaking Roger Moore is going to be on Howard Stern next week. That...is going to be ridiculous.

Can't wait to see this flick! The only bad thing is my "dance-card" is filled this weekend with activities for my kids so I won't get to see it until next week at the earliest. I don't think I have been this geeked to see a Bond flick in a long, long time.

Daniel Craig reveals he wanted Skyfall to be his last James Bond film | Film | guardian.co.uk

Daniel Craig has suggested that the finish line for himself as James Bond is not far away, during an interview with Rolling Stone to promote new 007 adventure Skyfall in the US. Despite having recently signed on to star in at least two more Bond films, Craig revealed he had been planning to end his stint as the suave British secret agent.

"I've been trying to get out of this from the very moment I got into it," he told the magazine. "But they won't let me go, and I've agreed to do a couple more, but let's see how this one does, because business is business and if the **** goes down, I've got a contract that somebody will happily wipe their ass with."
I am not a big Bond fan but I do enjoy the overall Bond movie experience. It just sucks to read about Craig not wanting to play Bond from the beginning. I think I liked him over the others that played Bond.

That is a really good list - my only objection is the boat chase from The World Is Not Enough, which I would replace with the car chase or the whole airplane sequence from The Living Daylights.

    LOS SPOILERS!

I thoroughly enjoyed Skyfall, but all the critics calling it the best Bond movie ever must be living in an trailer park in Corona with their windows wide open all the time. In terms of drama and depth, it definitely is at the top of the rankings, but even though Mendes did what the other two arty directors (Quantum of Solace, The World Is Not Enough) failed to do - make decent action scenes - they still felt like they were abbreviated and not as thrilling as they should have been. The opening scene was the best one, but the beginning felt a little lacking until they were on the motorcycles.

The sets were incredible, especially the Macao casino and the top of the Shanghai highrise. The music was great, especially the hints of the theme until the full old-school version kicked in right as the storage locker was opened. The use of the car's special feature in the climax was a fantastic touch, and the scene featured a great "oh you think its over - not even close, and it is now much tougher". I love all the new recurring characters, especially Moneypenny (which I guessed the second she showed up on the roof). The scene with the shot glass was fabulous from start to finish. Bardem trying to kill Bond with a subway car was ridiculous and awesome at the same time.

I probably give the movie an A-, as I did enjoy it quite a lot and probably will see it again in the theater on Thanksgiving weekend, but here comes a long list of complaints:

A house siege for a climax? Really? This is a James Bond movie, not an episode of MacGyver.
Loved the awesome fight Bond had with the villain at the end... wait, what? Wait, what? What? Huh? What? This alone is responsible for the minus in the A-.
Who the hell is Groundskeeper Willie? Why is he hanging around? I mean, other than to exposit to M things about Bond's childhood. I did like him though.
85% of the movie takes place in Great Britain. This is a James Bond movie, not an episode of 24.
Hey, let's turn a flashlight on so the villains can find us in the dark!
The villain wants Bond to join him. How very 1980's cartoon of him.
Most of the action scenes were way too short. This is a James Bond movie, not an episode of Burn Notice.
