Hmmmm. I had a completely different feeling. I totally got immersed in this. When they did finally pull back the curtain I really got that sense of awe that would be realistic in the face of something so deeply out of the ordinary. In my opinion the time they spent establishing...let me say, the scale of things, really payed off. It was a slow burn, and the time spent with the creatures was a mere blip in the overall running time...but it just really worked for me. It was like the anti-Jurassic Park. You can toss visual effects up on the screen all day, but if you don't establish a connection with the characters it's all just eye candy. Clearly, from the reactions here, I am in the minority. But I just wanted to toss my 2 cents out there.
