I also saw Splice last night with Adgy and my peeps.
I've come to the conclusion that I didn't like it, 20 mins into it and I realized why I never had any interest in seeing it. Horror is not my thing. The acting was fine and the effects were really good but the action/story was pretty predictable. I particularly didn't like the way scientists were portrayed as quirky, oddly dressing, amoral, yet "hip" rogues with autopipetters and petri dishes. I know it's a movie but apparently the idea of ethnics and science doesn't exist. They had made semi amorphous penis blobs and everyone was alright with that.

The sexual content in the movie was surprising, I didn't expect much of it since I was expecting this to be a "science experiment gone bad, gets lose, and starts killing people in the lab" type of movie. I've never been so traumatized over sex in a movie since Ang Lee's Lust Caution (although no freak genetic hybrid is every going to top the horror I experienced seeing Tony Leung's ****ing balls bopping around to and fro).

Adgy told me that the movie was supposedly funny from what the reviews said but, I didn't really laugh. I was slightly embarrassed at one point because he was laughing the loudest during an intense part of the movie - and I think he was the only one laughing while everyone was shocked or grossed out.

I think the only funny thing about the movie was that I kept of pointing out how the "monster" looked like Bjork. Basically I would say Splice is like Species meets Bjork.
I am glad the movie disturbed you little sis. That was what it was supposed to do. Ok, you did not like it but would you agree as far as summer flicks go it was well and truly off the beaten path. Ok...you went to see this...so i ask you...would you rather have a summer movie schedule filled with nasty little surprises, THAT YOU MAY OR MAY NOT LIKE, or would you rather have a summer of remakes/sequels and 1/2 assed re-imaginings????

I'm a sissy and choose the later. I may be dating Adgy but I'm still a sensitive and delicate movie watcher. :D

    Watched Moon. Outstanding film.
Prince George: You know, Blackadder, for me socks are like sex. Lots of it about and I never seem to get any.

But was Moon better than the A-Team ?

You don't mess with the Face.

So glad we stayed after the credits.

*Paging CBGB* Who cast this ? They couldn't find brown folk with a Mexican accent ? It bugged me. It's not that hard. We're in LA. Tell them to hit up the nearest Home Depot if they are in a pinch next time.

They shot quite a lot in Canada. But in L.A., it was Deborah Aquila and Mary Tricia Wood and their crew. Considering they handle Dexter, they've always done solid casting of Latinos there.

    Cool. Thanks.

Don't get me wrong. I am glad they got actual brown folk and didn't try to pass off some tan white guys off as Mexican but the accents were off on 2 of the three speaking roles. It was a wee bit annoying.

Looking forward to Toy Story 3.

Hey hey hey! Just because I don't PARTICULARLY relish nastiness such as RAPE does not mean I'm some moron drinking energy drink all day! I like a wide spread of movies. I might not particularly stick to a certain genre like Adgy and be all down with the indie **** like he is but I don't think I want to be spoon fed entertainment. Some people get enough nastiness during their normal lives and on the job, excuse me for not wanting that **** when I watch a movie.

I have no intention of seeing the A-Team, so I don't know. But I can assume that I enjoyed Moon a lot more than I would the A-Team.

I just got an email today from a friend who's trying to get people together to see the A-Team this weekend. I said no because I'd rather see Toy Story 3, something I'm sure I would enjoy much more.
