Last Movie Watched

Yesterday I had the sickness and tiredz...so it was movie day.

I watched 'Hunger' by Steve McQueen...it chronicles the 6 week 1981hunger strike by IRA prisoners (particularly that of Bobby Sands) in the British Maze Prison in Northern Ireland. Excellent film, and even if you're not particularly into or knowledgable of the subject matter its worth checking out.

Second on the list, was an epic fail called 'Surrogates' starting Bruce Willis. The most disappointing thing about this, was that it had a semi-reasonably intriguing story behind it (although perhaps a bit of an I Robot ripoff). The acting was horrible (LOL and :facepalm: at Ving Rhames as a dreadlock donning spiritual leader 'The Prophet') , the writing was horrible etc etc etc. It wasn't bad enough to turn off and walk away from, but certainly not decent enough for me to be glad I spent the time watching it.

The Mystery Team-Zany and awesome.

What Lies Beneath-Way too many Hitchcock "homages" for its own good, but it was okay overall.

Bad Dreams-80's horror movie about a girl who survives an cult mass suicide, which results in her having bad (and murderous, of course) dreams. I liked it, but its definitely dated and not without its flaws.

500 Days of Summer-I loved this.

Cashback-British film about some aspiring artist who has just broken up with his girlfriend and develops insomnia and has frequent fantasies. Interesting enough.

Epicest ov the epic!

I took my kids to see this Friday night. I know pretty much nothing about the story so I have nothing to base a judgement on except what my kids said. They liked it and said it was pretty close to the animated series. Got two more to watch - WOOT!! <sarcasm off>

Just finished watching "Let the right one in", and loved it in 100 different ways. It had everything a vampire horror movie should----except gratuitous shock and over-the-top gore and violence (Ok, there was SOME violence). Quietly paced, but oddly compelling and pulls you in immediately and doesn't let go. Superbly acted (by such young kids!) and brilliantly directed. The innocent love story between the two main characters has me still smiling. Wow. Could never have been this good made in Hollywood. Sadly, I'm sure a terrible English language remake is coming, but this Swedish original is the only one I need. May have to buy it in support, and cuz I wanna see it again already.

Sadly, yes. And although I heard something the other day that preview audiences liked it and found that it 'was deserving of existing', I have heard of some alterations to key elements of the story that basically sand the edges off and, in my opinion, dumb it down. Granted these were from test screenings, so until the final cut...who knows. I am planning on going to the panel @SDCC so I will let you know more.

IF you do buy it, Magnet screwed up with the first release of the dvd. Make sure that the back of the dvd says Theatrical sub-titles. The difference is startling.
